We've lined up a stellar roster of your fave local artists and some exciting new talents breezing through town! This week Jacob Diamond, Ruby Gill and Sunny Morris are stopping by for a show. Over a decade of searching in the arts communities of his hometown Boorloo/Perth, Jacob Diamond found a singular artistic voice. Diamond was a restless sixteen-year-old in the world’s most isolated capital city, sitting in the tension between piety and ambition. Ultimately, his saviours were songs and he was soon singing them at open mics on school nights. Diamond would go on to join bands, compose for theatre, act in plays and eventually perform around the world; grounded always by a dedication to authenticity and community. His self-released debut album (Goodbye Gondwana) earned a nomination for Album of the Year at the WAM Awards, where he also took home gongs for Best Vocalist and Best Guitarist. Diamond had arrived but was soon to leave, joining Methyl Ethel and Julia Jacklin on tours around the world. In 2020, Jacob found himself embedded in a new scene on the opposite coast in Naarm, where he continued to find confidence, joining the likes of Courtney Barnett and Camp Cope on stages around the country. With confidence comes discovery and with discovery comes new music - Jacob Diamond has a big 2024 planned. If anyone can silence a room, it’s Joburg-born, Naarm-based musician Ruby Gill, whose arresting lyricism, honesty and deadpan wit have already garnered millions of streams, awards and radio play from triple j, to BBC and KCRW. Ruby’s “melancholic lyrical wizardry” has earned them the reputation of unmissable, with their Australian Music Prize-nominated debut record ‘I’m gonna die with this frown on my face’ landing at #5 on the AIR Independent Album charts and met with Sunday Times’ coveted “Breaking Act” accolade and worldwide acclaim in September 2022.Sunny Morris is a trans folk artist and poet. Her second album is due to be released in August 2024, with the first single "Mother, It's Not My Fault" out now via Blossom Rot Records.Social Sanctuary is proud to be sponsored by Mountain Goat. Our show is being held on the lands of the Wurundjeri People and we wish to acknowledge them as the Traditional Owners of this land we are gathered on. We also pay our respects to their Elders, past and present, and Aboriginal Elders of other communities that may join us for our show.Northcote Social Club strives to create a safe space that everyone can enjoy.Crowd surfing & dangerous behaviour will result in removal from the venue.Full conditions of entry | Accessibility Info
