About this concert
The Breaks Inc. are a 6-piece retro-rock outfit from Queens, who after nearly 4 years of writing and 2 years of recording are preparing to release their debut album Hotel Earth later this year. Their first record follows two basement-made EPs and a handful of singles, and after cutting their teeth in the city they've decided to take a stab out on the East End. These lads have crafted for themselves a sound that is nostalgic for mid-90s alternative with tight indie hooks, British pop sensibilities, and a deep-seated desire to exist in any other time than the present (or future). This is a high energy rock show with melodic, carefully written songs that are designed to make you think, feel, cheer, and move. Expect an eclectic set with big highs and poignant lows. This is music for those who love it. . show less

The Breaks Inc. Biography

It’s taken nearly 4 years, but The Breaks Inc. are finally picking up steam as their first album, titled ‘Hotel Earth’, is nearing completion. The album is a stark departure from any of their previous releases, taking cues from Radiohead's OK Computer and A Rush of Blood to the Head-era Coldplay. After recording two EPs and a slew of singles in a basement on borrowed equipment, the band opted to give their debut album the time and attention it deserves, and have Hotel Earth “recorded properly."

The new sound is darker and more ambient than the band's early works, and there is a palpable tension in the recordings rooted in the uncertainty of a future that no one is in control of.

“This idea that the future will always be bright—happy— is a fantasy. Sometimes the world is going to be worse off in the future, and there’s nothing we can do about it except be along for the ride. I sometimes worry about the possibility of nuclear war. Is that strange? I don’t know. That’s what's been most haunting to me; the future.”

Recording has taken up most of 2023 with no definite release date yet announced, but rest assured the album is coming.

“One of the most difficult parts is trying to capture all of the parts and pieces that you hear in your head as accurately as you can. Sometimes you get close. Sometimes the initial impression is positive, and you end up hating it later. I've been writing these songs for a long time. I just want them to sound right."
