Amari Biography

Proudly producing wrong pop music.

The story so far:
In 1996 the two mcs Pasta and Dariella tried to give vent to their teenage angst creating Amari, which underscored the bitterness they had to express (in fact "amaro" in Italian means "bitter").
But from that beginning point, things have changed a lot. After a pure hip hop debut in a split project called “Contingente” (1999), the band included two new members: Cero on bass and dj H.C. Rebel.
In 2000 they published "Corporali" on Riotmaker Records, which is still their label until nowadays. The album is a strange blend of hip hop, electronics and rock with a psychedelic and dark mood. It pointed the spot on the band, which won the most important contest for new bands in Italy: Arezzo Wave Festival. The official label of the festival gave them the opportunity to register another album. After the “Guida Verde” e.p. in 2001, the complete collaboration was published in 2002: “Apotheke”, a new taste for pop music and istant melodies mixed up with their experimental side.
In 2003, they published “Gamera”, a courageosly strange album. The so called “Apotheke’s bad brother” expressed a different idea of experimental hip hop, with a little bit of dance attitude and contagious lyrics. The album gave to the band a lot of credibility in the undergroung scene, and it lead up to a long stream of gigs.
Then came “Grand Master Mogol”, published at the end of september 2005 on Riotmaker Records as usual. A perfect mix of pop melodies and strange sounds: dance, pop, hip hop, indie rock, elements filtered the ones over the others, building songs full of impact. The record has been considered by the press one of the best pop albums published in Italy and Riotmaker Records has been awarded as label of the year. Their clip were in rotation on Mtv, QOOB and AllMusic. One of them, "Campo minato", won the award for the Best Direction in 2006 PIVI (Premio Italiano Videoclip Indipendente). At the end of the year Amari occupied the fifth position in the italian official indie-charts.
In january 2006 the band started the "Grand Master Mogol tour", under the well-known agency Cyc Promotion, which reached the most important clubs of the Country and stopped only in september 2007.
On 20 October 2007 their fifth album, "Scimmie d'amore", appeared in the Italian music stores. For now, it seems that almost everyone agrees with the opinion that this record shows a real growth of the group, both from the musical side and the lyrics' one.
Touring is always very important for the band, so they're already "on the road" again, trying to promote this new work in every Italian town they can reach. In the meantime the videoclip of the first single, "Le gite fuori porta", is in rotation on Mtv and AllMusic... stay tuned!
