About this concert
Terry Reid?s voice is extraordinary- the finest British blue-eyed soulman. Nicknamed ?Superlungs? his shows are known for intimacy, showmanship and his interpretive vocal style. Every once in a while his friends and peers drop by and pay their respects; Robert Plant, Keith Richards, Roger Daltrey have all looked Terry up to play when they were in town. Terry got his first fame supporting the Stones on their 1966 American tour where Mickie Most and Peter Grant started to manage him. In 1969 Jimmy Page asked him to join the New Yardbirds on vocals (which quickly became Led Zeppelin) , Terry turned it down as he already had two new tours coming up with Cream and the Stones again, before he did though he introduced them to Robert Plant and John Bonham. He has been covered by the Hollies, White Stripes, Rumer, Marianne Faithful, Cheap Trick, Joe Perry and had been signed to Atlantic Records. SInce then he has toured and played with Mick Taylor and Johnny Depp. Aretha Franklin called him one of the greatest British singers. Terry will be accompanied by Chris Hillman on pedal steel. ??Astonishing by any standards; the spine tingles, hair prickles on back of the neck..? (The Independent). ?Terry Reid?s voice has the power to provoke an intense reaction? (The Times). This is a standing event at The Hare & Hounds (High Street, Kings Heath)

Terry Reid Biography

Terry joined the top UK band Peter Jay and the Jaywalkers in 1965. He made his first recordings in 1966. He was signed as a solo artist by the legendary Mickie Most in 1967. He was given the moniker Superlungs in recognition of his incredible power as a vocalist after recording the Donovan song of the same name. He toured the USA with Cream and the Rolling Stones in 1968 and 1969. He was approached by Jimmy Page to be the lead singer in his new band which became Led Zeppelin. He turned down the request and recommended the then unknown Robert Plant. He also turned down requests to become lead singer with Deep Purple and the Spencer Davis Group after Steve Winwood left the group. In 1971 he was the first act ever to appear on the Pyramid Stage at the Glastonbury Festival. In 1973 he released the seminal album River and in 1976 the even more popular Seed of Memory produced by his long term friend Graham Nash. In 1991 he released the album the Driver produced by Trevor Horn. He has released 9 albums in all and continues recording to this day. He collaborated with DJ Shadow on the track Listen in 2012 and with Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry on the track I'll do happiness in 2016. He performs regularly in California and New York and tours the UK twice a year every Spring and Autumn.
