We've lined up a stellar roster of your fave local artists and some exciting new talents breezing through town! This week Amaya Laucirica, Claire Birchall and Thomas Mendelovits are stopping by for a show. Amaya Laucirica is an Australian musician whose music combines the swirling contours of Cocteau Twins with the wistful melodies of The Go-Betweens. Since 2008, she has released four critically acclaimed albums including her 2008 debut Sugar Lights, Early Summer in 2010 (which was selected by Australia’s JJJ Radio as their “Album of the Week”), Sway in 2014, and Rituals in 2018 (featured as one of Rough Trade’s (UK) Albums of the month). Her last album was supported by a tour of the UK and Europe in 2018 including performances at The Great Escape Festival (UK) and Primavera Sound (Spain). At the beginning of 2023, Amaya started work on recording her fifth album with producer James Cecil at Super Melody World. The most eclectic of all her albums, the album signals a departure in style featuring orchestral arrangements, electronic beats, and hi-fi pop production. Amaya’s fifth album will be released in 2024.Claire Birchall’s continuing evolution as a songwriter / performer plus her commitment to DIY and sincerity over irony make her one of the most compelling and long-standing members of the Melbourne music community. From stunningly raw confessions to big-time rock to pop songs lavished with fuzzed out guitar, Casio and loops, Claire continues to find new ways to present her material to audiences. Her latest musical output, has seen her transition into the depths of darkwave synth pop with the successful release of her self-produced album ‘Running In Slow Motion’ (2020 It Records), with a follow up album set for a 2024 release.Thomas Mendelovits is the singer-songwriter behind Milk Teddy, a band more or less dormant since 2017’s Time Catches up with Milk Teddy album but who are currently gearing up for increased activity in 2024 and beyond. Thomas will perform solo drawing on new and old Milk Teddy material, his oeuvre reminiscent of 70s and 80s literate and delicate types.Social Sanctuary is proud to be sponsored by Mountain Goat. Our show is being held on the lands of the Wurundjeri People and we wish to acknowledge them as the Traditional Owners of this land we are gathered on. We also pay our respects to their Elders, past and present, and Aboriginal Elders of other communities that may join us for our show.Northcote Social Club strives to create a safe space that everyone can enjoy.Crowd surfing & dangerous behaviour will result in removal from the venue.Full conditions of entry | Accessibility Info
