Build A Rocket Biography
It all started with…
a desert songwriting trip with her old band Bad Cop/Bad Cop. Jen showed Linh a song ‘Too Far’ she wrote a few years prior. Within hours the song was recorded. Howlin’ she wolves and Tesla Satellite trains in the background. This trip was the catalyst that inspired Build A Rocket.
About:
Build A Rocket is the brainchild of multi-instrumentalist Jen Carlson. With a backlog of songs, this project took shape over the course of the last 10 years. Mixing genres of her influences, it’s a nod to math rock + punker roots, with americana + country undertones.
Jen’s sound pulls from the unlikely combination of a haunted surfbreak, with a galloping horse from a spaghetti western, paired with a dose a 60’s UFO convention and gusto of an ole’ biker gang.
The songs are mostly true stories of life, adventure, heartaches and solitude. Murderous at moments, the gritty lyrics paint pictures ghosts past and present.
