Willow Biography
His songs reveal a diverse and beautiful life well lived; as
layered and captivating as the stories behind why, how, where and when they were written.
“At the age of five years old I walked onto the stage at the Emerald Town Hall to sing
‘Twinkle Twinkle Little Star’. That impressionable young boy has never given up on his dream to sing, perform and have a wonderful career in music. This crazy little thing called life however has sometimes had other plans, and it is only now I am finally able to follow my dreams of recording my first album.” Willow
Emerging from many years performing in venues from Theatre Restaurants, Cabaret and Big Bands to Country Music festivals, Willow’s musicality and performance style is unique. With spectacular vocals and a depth of emotion that reaches into your soul, Willow’s long dreamed of album delivers something very special, and has been well worth the wait.
Born Gary Leonard Wilson, Willow (no surname) changed his name by deed poll in 1994 after serving in the
Australian Regular Army where the name originated. “When you arrive at Kapooka for basic training your first name becomes ‘recruit’, no one in your platoon knows or hears your given name so Wilson became Willow… and it stuck.”
Since 2012 Willow has dedicated himself to caring for family in his small hometown of Sapphire in Central Queensland (population: not many). During this time, he ran a pop-up coffee trailer serving the Sapphire
Gemfields for four years and became heavily involved in community events and fundraising for the local school, charities and support groups.
When telling the stories of his songs, Willow
expresses the maturity of living authentically in a world that often favours conformity.
About his upcoming first single RELEASE Willow says: “I have travelled so much of this country and its beauty is breathtaking. I am spiritually
connected to the land as much as I am to the Milky Way and all that is between. I want my ashes scattered within the captivating landscape I call home.”
Willow is a voice, an artist, a story that needs to be heard and his first single RELEASE is just the start.
