The Real People Biography

There are two artists known as The Real People. The early recordings of Zach Condon (of Beirut fame) were under the name The Real People. His album under this name is titled The Joys of Losing Weight. Unreleased officially, it is circulating on the Internet.

The second The Real People, from Liverpool, United Kingdom, were one of the first britpop bands in the early 1990s. They were a major influence on Oasis, and have received massive critical acclaim from their more successful contemporaries. Influenced by the The Stone Roses , the Inspiral Carpets, and the Mersey sound of the 1960s, they toured with the Inspiral Carpets and Ocean Colour Scene.

They were formed (as Jojo and The Real People) in 1988 by brothers Christopher and Anthony Griffiths, the original lineup consisted of Chris Griffiths (guitar and vocals) Tony Griffiths (bass and vocals) Tony Elson (drums) (later to be replaced by Garry Ford) and Sean Simpson (guitar) (later to be replaced by Alan Gillibrand)

Chris and Tony Griffiths soon gained a reputation for their superb songwriting skills. They signed with CBS on the Columbia label and released their self titled debut album ''The Real People'' in 1991. They had little success in the charts and band was dropped so they started their own recording company "Egg Records". A couple of years later they helped Oasis to write, produce and record the first proper demos of the songs that were later to appear on Definitely Maybe. Oasis also acted as their support band on several occasions.

Their second album, ''What's On The Outside'', was released in 1996. The band never officially broke up and another album was reported to be in preparation in 2001. It was never released commercially, although copies are known to be in circulation. Chris and Tony Griffiths have continued to write songs for other artists and still run their own recording studio.
