RYGIN KING Biography
The Dancehall Trap King (Matthew Smith) popularly known as Rygin King was born on August 22, 1994 in St. James,Jamaica where he attended Flankers Primary and Junior High then onward to Irwin High School.
Unable to finish school due to circumstances did not deter King in-becoming a successful young icon.
“You can achieve success regardless of your origin or background” quoted King.
At a young age, King would write his own lyrics and sing.
In 2013, at the age of 18; King entered the Magnum Kings and Queens talent show with the stage name "Jah B". Unfortunately, he was eliminated but that didn’t stop the young “Jah B” from pursuing his career as a Dancehall artiste. Music was King’s dream.
King has a one-of- a kind talent, his music resonates with his fans emotionally and inspires them. His first hit song “Feather Weight” released in August 2016 with over 1.4million views on YouTube to-date had set the tone for King’s career.
In 2017, more hits followed such as “Pretty Little Freak”, “Feel Like This” and “Learn” with over 6 million views.
At this point, King definitely earned the fan-proclaimed name: “Dancehall’s Baddest Thing”
In 2018 with his hit song “Tuff”, burning up the airwaves and racking up over 16 million views on YouTube; He made his big debut at Reggae Sumfest, where his performance was deemed to be one of the best in the festival’s history.
The “Dancehall Trap King “ has graced many major events, along with his first tour being in the United States; following the Caribbean, Europe and Canada .
In 2020, at the pinnacle of his career; King was faced with death’s door after being shot 3 times; leaving his lower body paralyzed. After multiple surgeries and physical therapy; King is stronger than before. "I know I will walk again, I know it is God's will” King quoted.
Throughout his Physical Therapy, King went back to basics on how therapeutic writing his lyrics and singing was for him. King decided to channel his thoughts to lyrics and so became the Therapy Album produced by his own Record Label (Rygin Trap Records)which will be released on Sept 9 2022. The Album’s title song trending at #1 with over 1 million views within 3 days has resonated, heaped and helped many stated fans.
