Freeborn Soul Biography
"The journey of forming blues rock stalwarts Freeborn Soul has been a lesson in personal growth and development.
For the past 6 years, singer/songwriter and Irish ex-pat Dave Gorman and his previous project Aviator Shades recorded two records, broken into the Canadian Rock Charts and criss-crossed the country with an energetic live show. But as time went on, rock n roll became a grind.
With a handful of charted singles and a storied gig history serving as a bass player for Calgary based Throne of Vengeance and bluesy swagger merchants The Outer, Riley Cobb began feeling like a fish outgrowing his pond, so he made the jump to Vancouver.
The pair realized their common musical threads and a desire to change their situation. Meshing their influences, their sound began to form something that mixed the plainspoken lyricism of Chris Stapleton with the expansive lift of U2, with a touch of fist pumping classic rock.
Rob Wheeler came up studying the drums under some of the UK’s premier session musicians, With his subtle, balanced technique and “serve the song” philosophy, the trio gelled into a cohesive unit.
Working with the legendary Mike Fraser, the group set to recording their songs ranging from the bluesy swagger of ""Movin' On"", to the heartfelt cry of ""One Day At A Time"".
One thing is clear; Freeborn Soul is the sound of three people rediscovering their fire, making the kind of music that resonates with them. Music to chase a dream to. Music to fall in love to. Music to live to."
