About this concert
Acclaimed Singer/Songwriter Vonda Shepard has sold over twelve million albums, won two Golden Globes, two Emmy Awards, two Screen Actor’s Guild awards, and is most notably the writer and performer of the original “Searchin’ My Soul”, the theme song for Ally McBeal. She also holds the Billboard prize for selling the most T.V. soundtracks in history. Vonda began playing clubs at the age of fourteen and was signed to Reprise Records at 24, where her “Don’t Cry Ilene” became a VH1 hit topping out at #11. In 1986, Vonda had a major pop hit singing “Can’t We Try” in a duet with Dan Hill that made it to #6 on the Pop Charts. It was during these early years as a successful indie performer that she toured with such luminaries as Rickie Lee Jones, Al Jarreau and Jackson Browne as either back-up singer or keyboardist. Vonda’s most demanding work was on Ally McBeal as music producer, where her hit theme song, “Searchin’ My Soul” reached #16 on the Billboard Adult Contemporary chart. For nearly five years she produced over 500 songs, for artists like Al Green, Sting, Randy Newman, Robert Downey Jr. Jon Bon Jovi, Gladys Knight, Chubby Checker, Barry Manilow and many more. Vonda now tours in support of her most recent album Red Light/Green Light with her stellar band, whose all-star line-up has alternately featured musicians that have played with Tina Turner, Bruce Springsteen, Johnny Cash, John Hiatt and Jackson Browne to name a few.

What fans are saying

Dan not for me, for a new friend

Vonda Shepard has a wonderful voice and it is a pleasure to hear her sing. But in concert her talents are often crowded out by her support band. Her guitarists and drummer are very talented, but I do not go to see Vonda to hear them, I go to listen to her. Their playing often drowns her out and it seems like they try to make themselves be more important than her. For what it's worth, I'd rather just listen to Vonda and her piano going it alone. At a recent Coach House concert I thought we had good seats right at stage edge, but as it turns out we were at the wrong end of the piano (mostly could not see her) and too near some of the speakers. I did get to purchase two CDs and they are wonderful to listen to. Thanks, Vonda!!

Vonda Shepard Biography

Vonda Shepard (born July 7, 1963) is a pop singer who gained popularity in the 1990s. She is probably best known for her regular appearances in the television show Ally McBeal, in which she played a resident performer at the bar where the show's characters usually drank after work. She plays piano, guitar and bass.

Vonda Shepard was born in New York but her family relocated to California when she was fairly young. From an early age she was a keen piano player and after performing as a backing singer for many years, she was eventually given her own record contract.

Shepard's first chart appearance was in 1987, when she recorded a duet with Dan Hill entitled "Can't We Try". She released her first self-titled album in 1989, with little fanfare. By her third album, however, she received strong critical acclaim and was soon signed up to appear on Ally McBeal after being spotted by the show's creator, David E. Kelley. While in the show she recorded two full soundtrack albums and featured heavily on two other Ally McBeal compilations. The songs Vonda recorded for Ally McBeal soundtrack albums were mainly covers of old songs with lyrics that parallelled what was happening in Ally's life onscreen. Since appearing in the show, Vonda has released two more studio albums and, more recently, a live album.

Vonda is married to music producer Mitchell Froom, and they had their first child, Jack Froom, on April 15, 2006
