About this concert
Lissies Carving Canyons finds the acclaimed singer-songwriter digging deep to carry on through lifes many uncertainties. The singer-songwriters fifth album is her most personal expression yet, with twelve songs that chart the ripples caused by heartbreak and loneliness as well as what happens when the soul perseveres amidst pain. Carving Canyons is as deeply felt as Lissies music has ever been, with sumptuous production and indelible melodies that will surely stand the test of time.Carving Canyons came about at Lissies own pace, following tour outings behind 2018s Castles and the piano-based retrospective When Im Alone from 2019. It wasnt a time where I felt like I had a lot to say, she recalls, and each record typically comes from a shift in my life where I need to share things. As the COVID-19 pandemic spread across the world, Lissie was also dealing with an impactful breakup on her Iowa farm. It was such a heavy timenot just for me but for the world, of courseand I needed love, support, and connection, she says. Because there was so much isolation, it was an important period of time for me to explore some of my dark places and process it all. As Lissie took in the nature and observed the seasons changing around her and within her, the songs that would make up Carving Canyons started to flow from her. Sometimes, as seeds begin to sprout, you have to thin them out so that the ones you keep have enough space to grow and thrive, she sagely states while reflecting on this time. Its a metaphor for making space for what matters, a brutal, beautiful cycle that can also be very healing, and it all comes from surrender. Furthermore, with the right amount of time, so much can grow and change so quickly. The garden was a helpful reminder to have hope for the future. Her independence within the context of the music industrywhich shes maintained since releasing 2016s My Wild West on her Lionboy labelalso enabled her to write straight from the heart, without feeling rushed by deadlines: I really only write when Im bursting at the seams, and its such a therapeutic thing to do. These songs become the listeners songs too, and hopefully it helps them deal with their emotions as well. Its all universal. Overall, Carving Canyons is about looking within while dealing with the uncertainty of the futurefinding hope in personal and worldly adversity, no matter what the forecast might say. Some days it was so terrifying that I didnt know how to carry onand then I realized, How exciting. What a gift, Lissie recalls while discussing her frame of mind while making the record. The road in front of me is wide open. Accordingly, Carving Canyons is another step in an impressive career that opens up endless possibilities for whats to come.

Lissie Biography

Lissie Maurus was raised in the riverside town of Rock Island, Illinois, and she drew upon those blue-collar Midwestern origins to create her own form of indie folk music. The granddaughter of an international barbershop quartet champion, she grew up singing in theater productions, eventually picking up the guitar and playing her own songs at local coffee shops as a teenager. Lissie was also something of a rebel; she got thrown out of high school during her senior year, spent a brief period at Colorado State University, relocated to Paris for a semester, and eventually ditched college altogether to pursue her music career. Returning to the U.S., Lissie headed west and settled in Los Angeles, where she became a fixture on the local venue circuit and landed a national tour opening for Lenny Kravitz

Fans first fell in love with her sun-and-tequila-soaked voice from her five-song EP Why You Runnin', produced by Bill Reynolds of Band of Horses, which was ranked among the Eight Most Auspicious Musical Debuts by Paste. Lissie's full- length debut, Catching A Tiger was released in 2010. Paste Magazine named her Best New Solo Artist, VH1 tapped her as a "You Oughta Know” artist and she received a Q Awards nomination for Best Breakthrough Artist. Scads of festival performances, tour dates, television appearances and film/TV song placements followed.

Back to Forever, the album after Lissie's 2010 debut, was followed by My Wild West in 2016 which peaked at #1 on the Billboard Heatseekers chart and Top 10 on the Independent Album chart. After releasing her stunning album ‘Castles’ in 2018, which became her first UK #10 album and debuted at #11 on the Current Alternative Albums chart in the U.S, Lissie returned earlier in 2019 with ‘When I’m Alone: The Piano Retrospective’- an evocative collection reinterpreting songs from her first decade in music. In 2020 Lissie released her gorgeous new covers EP "Thank You To The Flowers", a collection of stunning covers of songs by female artists that Lissie admires. The EP follows her other popular covers, including 'Go Your Own Way' and 'Dreams' by Fleetwood Mac,’ Bad Romance' by Lady Gaga, ‘Pursuit Of Happiness’ by Kid Cudi and 'Nothing Else Matters' by Metallica, which have collectively amassed 57 million streams and counting.

In 2021, Lissie is celebrating and releasing the Anniversary Edition of her debut album Catching A Tiger as well as a retrospective compilation of unreleased formative material entitled Watch Over Me (Early Works 2002-2009).
