About this concert
Stafford's banjo maestro Dan Walsh returns to his old hometown to play what's become an annual gig with old friends and local legends Fish From Oblivion as support and expect some collaborations too! BBC Folk Awards Best Musician nominee Dan Walsh combines ?virtuoso playing and winning songwriting? (MORNING STAR). Describing what Dan does is no easy task but at the heart of it is British, Irish and American folk music delivered with a healthy dose of funky grooves ? all performed with his unique and dazzling take on clawhammer style banjo helping to challenge all preconceptions about the instrument. Add to all that poignant songs, astonishing musical departures and lively humour and the result is a truly memorable live show which has wowed audiences across the world from intimate seated rooms to huge dancing crowds in festival fields. Fish From Oblivion are Stafford?s a cappella folk choir, and have been swimming the oceans of song together since Dan was a mere sprat. They sing songs of social justice from across the world and down the centuries. They?ll be joining Dan for a few songs together, and providing a supporting set of their own.

Dan Walsh Biography

Canadian singer/songwriter multi-instrumentalist, Dan Walsh is already well known for his collaborations with a number of talented musicians. He’s added his bluesy-slide guitar signature style to more than 40 albums and toured across North America, Europe and Australia and Asia.

For many years Walsh was a key member of Fred Eaglesmith’s band, The Flying Squirrels, where he played more than a couple of hundred gigs a year and shared the stage with the likes of Willie Nelson, Little Feat, Delbert McClinton, Willie P. Bennett and the Del McCoury Band.

In 2023 Walsh released his 6th solo album entitled “The Booker” Produced by Jimmy Bowskill (Blue Rodeo, Sheepdogs), The Booker is a collection of songs written over the past few years and brought to fruition during the world wide shutdown. This is a “guitar record” featuring Bowskill and Walsh trading guitar solos throughout the journey as well as Bowskill providing the bass. Also featuring Ian Mckeown (Samantha Martin) on drums, The Booker offers 7 new original songs and one well placed cover of “Goin Out West” by Tom Waits. Released in July of 2023, The Booker is available on both Compact Disc and limited edition purple vinyl at Busted Flat Records.

Since going solo, Walsh has performed over 2000 shows including opening for Ike Stubblefield and Col. Bruce Hampton.
