The IZM. Biography

The IZM, a New Jersey based rapper and lyricist, doesn't fit into a box and he likes it that way. He is a product of his influences, from the sounds of Nirvana to the beats of Common. He speaks from his own experiences and self-describes his music as alternative hip-hop.

The IZM's King For A Day was released on Martin Luther King's Day, January 21, 2013. IZM came to realize that staying true to himself was the best way to stand out as an emerging artist. When life threw him curves, he persevered and focused on becoming the man he is today.

King For A Day represents my awakening in walking into my destiny. I finally felt that for once in my life, I was doing something that made me feel good about myself. We become so beaten and rugged from life that we forget the things that bring us joy and give us purpose," he says.

Born in Newark, New Jersey, IZM. began writing songs when he was just 10 years old. In his early 20's, IZM began to take his music seriously. He taught himself how to play piano by ear and hit the ground running. IZM's love for rock music led him to join a hard rock band before eventually moving to Atlanta, where he began his solo career. Michael and Janet Jackson were the base of his musical inspiration, followed by Fiona Apple for songwriting and Common as his lyrical and hip hop inspiration. IZM. poured all the ailments of being an adult into his writing.

After coming across an open call on Facebook for unsigned artists to submit music for Spike Lee's latest film, Da Sweet Blood of Jesus, The IZM. struck gold having " I Don't Feel God" make it into the film and on the soundtrack, available now via Epic Records. He teamed up with producer UnUsual to form Dark Alley Echoes releasing their inaugural EP, Becoming, in September 2017.
