Five

Five is a band from Mauritius, small island of the Indian Ocean. Our name is 5 and up to date, we count 6 members. It is quite weird to see that the personal motivation of 6 individual characters can lead to an amazing musical experience. In the early 2013, a Trio project begun with Hans Nayna(lead vocal), Roberto Reine De Carthage(Percussionist) and Bryan Armoogum(lead guitar). Hans had been singing for 3 years when the project started while Roberto and Bryan were part of the Blackmen Bluz, a world acoustic music band in Mauritius. They started setting up a repertoire and soon after, performing on various live stages on the island namely Amnezia, BarAbar, Moka’z, Ocean Lounge, Lajoupa Bar and TPL (Tritonik Project Live). Music has no limit, no predefined setting, we met Dominique Chowrimootoo during the course of the year and he became the bassist. We didn’t ever expect more but while things were taking another more serious direction, a guitar soloist, Steevie Carre and a violinist Emmanuelle Ghem were to be added and were to close the door behind them. From here, 5 was born. We make music for our souls, for the love of it, we compose, we try out new things, we struggle cause at the end of the day, “when music hits you, you feel no pain.” Five has been set to provoke changes, to try something different, something new and true. We swear to use doors whenever it’s possible, Where it isn’t, we shall use your window !
