Encephalon Biography
Encephalon is the ongoing collaboration between electronic musicians Matte Black ( vocals, synths, programming, lyrics & concepts) and 5am (synths, programming, percussion, production). While happy to be labeled as "Industrial", "Synthpop", "Electro-Goth", or whatever sub-sub-sub-genre is marketable that week, the sound of Encephalon is often unclassifiable due to the ever shifting nature of moods and desire to reinvent oneself before accepting any one true fate. However this music is consistently MELODIC with epic choirs and synthetic ensembles, consistently EXPLOSIVE due to the Hi-Def rhythm treatments and thundering basslines, and consistently INFECTIOUS from no shortage whatsoever of vocal, rhythm, and synth hooks.
In the summer of 2005 the first 4 Encephalon songs ever written were passed along to friends and eventually found their way to the mp3 scene and an unofficial "demo" was circulated around. Two of the four songs featured appeared on compilations by Dependent Records (Germany) and Glitchmode (USA). Over the following few months several live performances around Ontario established the group as an over the top intense, high energy-electro-punk-tweak-fest that few could ignore, and fewer could sit still through.
Encephalon has since been perfecting the final touches on their long awaited and highly anticipated debut album "Integrate or Disintegrate" which is a nightmarish and futurist epic depicting themes of conformity, anxiety, addiction, social alienation, and discovering the will to rise past oppressing forces.
