Classica Orchestra Afrobeat

ENGLISH _ CLASSICA ORCHESTRA AFROBEAT is an italian ensemble consisting of 13 musicians from mixed classical, baroque, popular and jazz background. Conducted by MARCO ZANOTTI, it creates a border land that combines the sounds and expressive peculiarities of the instruments of the European classical tradition as strings, woodwinds and harpsichord with percussion, chants and African polyrhythms. The debut album SHRINE ON YOU (Brutture Moderne 2011) is a tribute to Fela Kuti, recorded with his son and heir SEUN KUTI. It made a full of rave reviews both in Italy and abroad, including participation in 2013 live at the GLASTONBURY Festival-UK (first Italian band ever invited) and in 2014 in Perugia as a flagship event of the Festival of Radio 3RAI. Other performances to remember are Piazza del Duomo in Milan, the Baths of Caracalla in Rome with guest Seun Kuti, the New Empowering Church in London and various live performances in Radio2RAI and Radio3RAI. The second work of the band is REGARD SUR LE PASSE', an epic opera in three movements. It was recorded live at the Alighieri Opera House in Ravenna (IT) and presented in 2014 at Rome's Auditorium Parco della Musica. It's a musical suite that, through the ancient sounds both European and African, recounts the exploits of the last emperor of Africa, Samory Toure. Guests of the show are two internationally renowned griot: SEKOUBA BAMBINO and BABA SISSOKO. In 2017, the Classic Afrobeat Orchestra presents its third work titled POLYPHONIE: a show dedicated to the greatness of nature, inspired by the breath and the millenary chants of the virgin forest. The repertoire is exclusively of original compositions while the lead voice is that of Cameroonian singer NJAMY SITSON. Diretta da MARCO ZANOTTI, crea nei suoi lavori di composizione o arrangiamento un territorio di confine che mescola le sonorità e le peculiarità espressive degli strumenti della tradizione colta europea come archi, legni e clavicembalo con le percussioni, i canti e le poliritmie africane. Il disco d'esordio SHRINE ON YOU (Brutture Moderne 2011) è un omaggio a Fela Kuti, registrato insieme al figlio ed erede SEUN KUTI. Ha fatto il pieno di critiche entusiastiche sia in Italia che all'estero, inclusa la partecipazione live nel 2013 al Festival di GLASTONBURY-UK (prima e unica band italiana invitata) e nel 2014 a Perugia come evento di punta del Festival di Radio3. Altre esibizioni da ricordare sono Piazza del Duomo a Milano, le Terme di Caracalla a Roma con ospite Seun Kuti, il New Empowering Church di Londra e varie performance dal vivo a Radio2RAI e Radio3RAI. Il secondo lavoro della band è l'opera epica in tre movimenti REGARD SUR LE PASSE', registrata dal vivo al Teatro Alighieri di Ravenna per Ravenna Festival e presentata nel 2014 all'Auditorium Parco della Musica di Roma. Si tratta di una suite musicale che attraverso le sonorità antiche, sia europee che africane, ripercorre le gesta dell'ultimo imperatore d'Africa, Samory Toure. Ospiti dello spettacolo sono due griot di fama internazionale: SEKOUBA BAMBINO e BABA SISSOKO. Dal 2017 la Classica Orchestra Afrobeat presenta il suo terzo lavoro intitolato POLYPHONIE: uno spettacolo dedicato alla grandezza della natura, ispirato dai respiri e dai canti millenari della foresta vergine. Il repertorio è quasi esclusivamente di composizioni originali mentre la voce solista è quella del camerunense NJAMY SITSON.
