Her career trajectory has been a unique one, from her initial success as a massively popular comedic actress in her native Argentina, to the abandonment of her television career in 1996 and her decision to devote herself to forging her own, inimitable style of music, which gained her worldwide recognition as a critically-lauded recording and touring artist.Juana Molina grew up in a musical environment. Her father, revered tango singer and composer Horacio Molina, gave her guitar lessons from the age of five. Her mother, actress Chunchuna Villafae, is a committed music lover who initiated Juana to the secrets of her extensive record collection. Following the military coup of 1976, the Molina family fled the country and lived in exile in Paris for six years. During those formative teenage years in Paris, Juanas outlook on music was vastly expanded by being exposed to music from around the globe.In 2019 Juana released ForFun, a joyful EP with 4 of her songs rearranged and performed in a punkish mood. Juana Molinas latest release is Segundo (21st Anniversary Edition), the remastered reissue of her breakthrough album. She also features on the upcoming album by Congotronics International (the supergroup she formed years ago with Deerhoof, Kasai Allstars, Konono No.1 & others), to be released on April 29, 2022. Juana Molina has toured extensively in the US, Europe, and Japan (wheres shes recently did live trio collaborations with Terry Riley and Jeff Mills). Her concert performances combine live loops, effects created onthe-fly and her deft acoustic guitar playing, creating a lush sounding as well as visually compelling experience.

Juana Molina Biography
Born in 1962, Juana Molina is an Argentinian singer/songwriter and actress.
Following the military coup in Argentina of 1976, Molina's family fled the country and lived in exile in Paris for six years. She grew up in a musical environment and her tango-singing father taught her guitar when she was 5.
Juana Molina started her career in 1988 as a comedic television actress in Argentina on the show La Noticia Rebelde. She later starred in Juana y sus hermanas, a hit sketch show across the Spanish-speaking world, for which she remains better known in Latin America.
In 1996 she decided to start her musical career and released her first album, Rara. Her second album, Segundo, was named Best World Music Album 2003 in Entertainment Weekly and gained a Shortlist Award 2004 nomination. Tres Cosas, her third album, was placed in the Top Ten Records of 2004 by the New York Times.
Son, her fourth album, released in 2005, has been acclaimed by the critics.
The lyrics on her albums are sung in her native Spanish and are often accompanied by acoustic guitar, among other instruments. Her music features elements of ambient and electronica, and she is often compared by critics to Björk, Beth Orton, and Lisa Germano. She usually writes, mixes tracks and performs on her own.
