Plastic Cheeses are hitting the Tote front bar on the afternoon of SundayApril 28th with a free gig to promote the release of their new single, “YouNeed A Break... Mate”.Plastic Cheeses are a relatively new band concocted by members fromFootscray, the Otways and the Surf Coast. Lethargic and cathartic - theywrite simple, catchy songs about the happenings and observations ofeveryday life with a distinct tinge of Australiana.Utilising Plastic Cheeses’ usual wry, laconic writing style, new single“You Need A Break.. Mate” discusses how themes of distress, anxietyand existential dread can manifest itself into uncharacteristic behaviourfull of anger and combativeness. Put simply by songwriter Paul, “This isa song about getting into fights with strangers on the internet”.Joining Plastic Cheeses for a Sunday arvo full of free fun and janglingaplenty are new pals, Malibu Spacey.Melbourne/Naarm band Malibu Spacey make music that’s all jangly 12string acoustic guitars, intricate lead lines, three-part vocal harmoniesand noodly bass grooves. The sound takes pieces of 70s country rock, folk and dreamy indie rock, fitting somewhere in the world of artists likeCass McCombs and Angel Olsen.Pop into the front bar of The Tote from 3pm to join in on the fun.

Malibu Spacey Biography

Malibu Spacey is a Melbourne-based band whose style leans on jangly 12 string acoustic guitars, intricate lead guitar lines, three-part vocal harmonies and earworm bass grooves. This heady brew gives Malibu Spacey a sound that touches on 70s soft rock, Americana, psychedelia and modern Indie.

Since starting as a bedroom project in 2017, Malibu Spacey has released a number of singles, which have received airplay on community radio stations such as RRR and 4ZZZ.

In 2022, the band released their debut four track EP Something To Do In The Desert, produced by Rohan Sforcina at Head Gap and mastered by Joe Carra at Crystal Mastering.

In March 2023, Malibu Spacey will release new single ‘Electrocutie’, the first track from their forthcoming debut album.

“Malibu Spacey strike up a perfect balance between hushed folk-pop, shimmering psychedelia and sturdy indie-rock.” - Trouble Juice
