Colatura Biography
Brooklyn-based Colatura is the dream pop project of Jennica and Digo Best. Borrowing from many indie genres, they write music that is sometimes dreamy, sometimes heavy, with pop-leaning melodies, post-punk atmospherics and surf-tinged guitars. With multiple lead vocalists, they have been called "Fleetwood Mac with Shoegaze Guitars," and the intermix of vocals alongside jangly guitars and melodic bass lines defines their sound. A staple in the Brooklyn indie scene, Colatura has been featured as a “band we like” by NYC tastemaker Oh My Rockness and described by Full Time Aesthetic as “like sunshine streaming out of an amplifier with its volume set at nine”. Their music has been featured on Spotify's All New Rock editorial playlist, Pandora's AMP: Fresh Cuts station, as well as other tastemaker playlists such as Birp.fm and David Dean Burkhart's Compact Cassette. They attended SXSW ‘22 as an official showcasing artist and spent much of 2022 touring to support the release of their debut album, And Then I’ll Be Happy, which came out in April of 2022. Expect new music in 2023!
“A dreamy, warm treat in the dead of winter”
- BROOKLYN VEGAN
"Gorgeous, nostalgia-inducing, 120 Minutes MTV-like dream pop featuring plaintive and yearning vocals, reverb-drenched guitars, driving rhythms and the band’s unerring ability to craft an enormous hook.”
- THE JOY OF VIOLENT MOVEMENT
“The upbeat surf guitar, blissful washes of synths, and brilliant bursts of melody make for a decadent dream pop reverie, recalling classic influences like Cocteau Twins as well as contemporaries like Alvvays or Yumi Zouma.”
