Sa voix, riche et veloutée tout en étant précocement raffinée, lui a déjà valu des fans comme Anita Baker et Regina King et des apparitions au TODAY Show, au Tonight Show w/Jimmy Fallon, au Late Show w/Stephen Colbert, aux CBS Mornings, Kelly Clarkson, Jennifer Hudson et bien d'autres encore, ainsi que des millions de likes sur TikTok - cimentant son statut de peut-être première star de la chanson jazz de la génération Z. Le New York Times a fait l'éloge de cette étoile montante à la voix soyeuse pour avoir aidé le jazz à prendre un tournant jeune , tandis que NPR All Things Considered l'a qualifiée de chanteuse de jazz classique issue d'une nouvelle génération . En février 2023, Samara Joy a remporté deux GRAMMYs : celui du meilleur album vocal de jazz et celui, très convoité, de la meilleure nouvelle artiste. En 2024, lors de la 66e cérémonie des Grammy Awards, elle a ajouté à sa collection croissante d'accolades en remportant le prix de la meilleure performance jazz pour le single autoproduit Tight . Such phenomenal talents. Samara Joy is truly one of the great voices of our time. I knew this beforehand, but seeing her perform live was jaw-dropping. The range, the passion. So many great numbers, gorgeous arrangements, and a fabulous ensemble of musicians. Truly a feast for our ears. I believe everyone in the audience felt as blessed as we did just to be in attendance. Amazing show, if you get the chance to see her. Do.

Samara Joy Biography
With her Verve Records debut, Linger Awhile, 23-year-old Samara Joy makes her case to join the likes of Sarah, Ella, and Billie as the next mononymous jazz singing sensation recorded by the venerable label. Her voice, rich and velvety yet precociously refined, has already earned her fans like Anita Baker and Regina King, appearances on the TODAY Show and millions of likes on TikTok — cementing her status as perhaps the first Gen Z jazz singing star. On Linger Awhile, Samara will introduce that massive audience to a slew of classic standards several times older than she is through her timeless, irresistible sound.
Samara is still relatively new to jazz. Growing up in the Bronx, it was other music of the past — the music of her parent’s childhoods, as she put it — that she listened to most. She treasures her musical lineage, which stretches back to her grandparents Elder Goldwire and Ruth McLendon, both of whom performed with Philadelphia gospel group the Savettes, and runs through her father, who is a singer, songwriter and producer who toured with gospel artist Andraé Crouch. Eventually, she did follow in the family tradition, singing in church and then with the jazz band at Fordham High School for the Arts, with whom she won Best Vocalist at JALC’s Essentially Ellington competition. That led to her enrolling in SUNY Purchase’s jazz studies program, where she fell deeply in love with the music.
