About this concert
Steve Pledger has been described as "a master of his craft" by folking.com and his recordings as "object lessons in the art of contemporary songwriting" by fRoots Magazine. FATEA Magazine wrote that seeing him perform live is "a privilege to witness." Cast in the mold of the classic troubadour, there are inevitably shades of those who ultimately have defined the role, and yet his blend of blistering social commentary; stark honesty, and fearless tenderness have marked Steve out as someone unafraid to create his own place in the singer/songwriter landscape. In November 2022, he released his 4th studio album, What Tomorrow Knows, following on from 14 Good Intentions (2012), Striking Matches in the Wind (2015), Somewhere Between (2016), and his live mini-album Alone in the Dark (2019). What Tomorrow Knows has been enthusiastically received by many and described as "a future classic" by Roots & Fusion. 2016's Somewhere Between was nominated for several awards and went on to win Album of the Year (male artist) from FolkWords as well as the coveted Album of the Year from FATEA Magazine. Other nominations and plaudits followed, and in 2020 a download release of the piano-backed/spoken word version of his song 'The Baptist's Father' secured him Track of the Year from FATEA. On record as well as on stage, Steve Pledger's songs connect. R2 Magazine once described his music as having "a direct route to the heart" and now more than ever, his live shows and latest album, What Tomorrow Knows, would seem to confirm that statement. For him, that's very much what it's all about.

Steve Pledger Biography

Steve Pledger is an award-winning recording artist with an enviable reputation as a talented and dynamic performer. BBC Introducing have called his music "beautiful, authentic, unblemished and wonderful”. With writing that ranges from fragile reflections on love and loss to blistering commentaries on present circumstances, his songs pack an emotional punch, both on record and on stage.

His musical influences are many and varied and include Graham Parker, Cat Stevens/Yusuf Islam, Martyn Joseph, Van Morrison, Don McLean, Springsteen and others.

Following on from his 2012 debut album ‘14 Good Intentions’, April 2015 saw Steve release its follow-up, ‘Striking Matches In The Wind’ , which according to R2 Magazine’s 4* review is “Authentically expressed in a voice with genuine appeal... a direct route to the heart.”

Successful tours over the last few years have taken him around the UK, including several across Scotland. Steve’s much anticipated third album, ‘Somewhere Between’ (2016) appeared on multiple ‘Best of 2016’ radio shows, frequently in the top ten, and in January 2017 was announced as Album Of The Year by FATEA, as well as by FolkWords in the Male Solo Artist category.

In February 2019, Steve launched his live music initiative, On Trust Events, to help make live music more accessible to all, regardless of financial situation. Towards the end of the year, he also put out his first live album, 'Alone in the Dark', which Roots & Fusion named as one of their '25 Essential Albums of the Year'.

November 2022 saw the release of Steve's first studio album in 6 years. Met with critical acclaim, Folk & Tumble said in their 5 Star review that it 'cements Pledger's status as one of the finest protest singer-songwriters of his generation'.
