Speedway Biography

Speedway are a Scottish pop rock group who were formed in 2001 by Glaswegians Jill Jackson (lead vocals) and Jim Duguid (drums). The band accquired two more members in that same year, in the shape of bassist Tom Swann from Edinburgh and guitarist Dan Sells, and signed with Innocent Records in 2002, the label home to Blue and Atomic Kitten. The band supported the former on their UK tour in early 2003, and played a number of university gigs as well, and they were noted for playing one song in particular- the Christina Aguilera 1999 hit Genie In A Bottle, and as a result, in September 2003, it became their first single as a double-a-side, with another song, "Save Yourself" and hit #10 in the UK singles chart.

Their second single, Can't Turn Back hit #12 in February 2004, by which point the music industry were citing them as a modern day Pretenders because of their unique pop rock sound which had a feminine touch courtesy of Jill. Their third single, In & Out, hit #33 in June, and their album Save Yourself was released just after Can't Turn Back came out, sadly, it didn't achieve as well as expected. Speedway thus left Innocent Records after their first UK tour, but the band are still together and looking for a new deal, and Jill is expected to launch some solo material very soon while the band take a year out.

Jill Jackson is also known for dating Fame Academy Winner Alex Parks and they performed two songs- Don't Let It Get To You, and Stuble - in March 2005, in Bedford
