Fat Digester Biography

An award winning 10-piece collective rooted in jazz, funk and soul. An incredible live act, featuring a broad range of influences from reggae sound-system toasters to avant-garde jazz players, their sound is freeform funk at its finest. Formed at the height of Britpop, the band has always ploughed their own unique furrow, winning awards at the Cheltenham Jazz Festival , while performing at Reggae Sound System nights and rock clubs to equally appreciative audiences. Fusion is a much-used word, but imagine if Weather Report, James Brown and Talking Heads joined forces, then this may be a starting point for enjoying the band’s music.

The sound is driven by a bass-heavy groove, with textured percussion, a punchy big brass section, with jazz and soul inflected vocals, mixing a range of styles from funk, soul, jazz, Latin, dub and hiphop, while retaining a sound that is uniquely their own.

The band formed in Nottingham in 1996 and feature a rotating array of gifted players from around the UK, including members of Pinski Zoo, Mellowmatic, The Egg, Highness Sound System & The Symphonica Orchestra. They have released 3 full-length albums and several well-received EP’s and are currently promoting their latest release ‘Never Too Late’, which see’s the band re-unite with members old and new, while pointing a clear path to the future.
