Scaphism Biography

Scaphism was formed in April of 2007 as a death metal side-project by Evan Woolley (Treachery, Legion of the Dying, etc.). In 2008 Evan released the two track, limited edition cassette demo entitled "Butchered and Devoured" and soon after its release it was decided his project needed to evolve into a full fledged four piece. After some time spent in the local scene looking for the right musicians to fill the void, it led to the discovery of Alex Fewell (Forced Asphyxiation), Tom Gretschel (Never Say Never), and Tony Jordan (Sacreligion). In mid-2009, Scaphism began playing shows all over the New England area, and in late 2009 the unofficial live demo entitled "Live at Church" was released. In 2010 Scaphism released a three way split CD with Boarcorpse and Composted, which was their first studio release as a full band. Scaphism's debut album "Festering Human Remains" was released on April 19th, 2012 and they performed an East Coast/Midwest tour in support of the release. Later that year, the band parted ways with their bassist, and Josh Staples (Abnormality, Sarcomancy, etc.) was asked to fill in. After a few more local shows, he was asked to join full-time. The next year was spent mostly writing and rehearsing material for Scaphism's 2nd full length album, and playing the occasional local show. Towards the end of 2013, the band parted ways with Josh, and welcomed Tony's brother Erik in as their new bassist in early 2014. Recording, mixing and mastering of their 2nd album took place over the next two years, and in 2017 Scaphism signed with Horror Pain Gore Death Productions for the release of "Unutterable Horrors".
