About this concert
PARKER MILLSAPParker Millsap quickly made a name for himself with his captivating live performances, soulful sound, and character-driven narratives. Hes had a string of successes including an appearance on CONAN, a performance with Elton John at the Apple Music Festival, an Austin City Limits taping an AmericanaMusic Association nomination for Album of the Year. Hes shared the stage with folks like Jason Isbell, Shovels Rope, Patty Griffin, Houndmouth, and many others. Parkers early releases showcased a mastery of acoustic folk rock, with their flourish for revelation and fiery dynamics. Be Here Instead, Millsaps 2021 release produced by John Agnello, hinted at the wildness to come while exploring newer, more personal songwriting styles. Parkers newest album, Wilderness Within You, is a natural step in Parkers evolution which interweaves threads of his musical past andnewer influences to gorgeous effect.ROBERT ELLISRecorded live to tape in just two days, Robert Elliss exquisite new album, Yesterdays News, is as stripped-down as it gets, with the celebrated songwriter and producers delicate, reedy tenor accompanied only by nylon string guitar, upright bass, and the occasional piece of handheld percussion. The arrangements are harmonically sophisticated here, drawing on the open tunings and intricate fingerpicking of English songwriters like Nick Drake or Richard Thompson, and Elliss performances are similarly subtle and nuanced, tapping into the bittersweet longing of Chet Baker and the playful poignancy of Bill Evans and Jim Hall. While that might seem surprising coming off 2019s raucous Texas Piano Man, subverting expectations is nothing new for Ellis. Born and raised outside Houston, he gained early acclaim for his piercing introspection and absorbing narratives, but over the course of five solo albums, he flirted with everything from Paul Simon and John Prine to Elton John and Joni Mitchell in a series of sonic and visual transformations that ran the gamut from Redneck Steely Dan to Lone Star Liberace. NPR hailed his musical daring and impeccable songcraft, while Rolling Stone praised his sharp eye for storytelling, and the New York Times lauded his writing as an emotional gut punch.Yesterdays News marks Elliss debut LP for Niles City Records, an outgrowth of the famed Niles City Sound studio he and longtime collaborator Josh Block run in Fort Worth, TX.

Robert Ellis Biography

Robert Ellis has named his new album after himself and the reason is clear.  The album is both his most personal statement yet and a summation of his career thus far.  Robert Ellis opens with “Perfect Strangers,” a meditation on what brings people together (and how tenuous that connection can be), and ends with “It's Not OK,” a raw look at emotional compromise. Between those two powerful bookends are nine other songs that set Ellis's soaring vocals and knowing melodies against his sharp, dark observations, and that show him in full command of a vibrant set of songwriting skills—irony, distance, character, narrative, a thoughtful relationship between sound and sense.
