About this concert
The Sunday Blues BBQ is back! Nothing better than a dose of healthy Blues over a few beers and tasty treats. Featuring Melbourne's Smoke Stack Rhino and upcoming protege Noah Robertson, this is a solid scene bill courtesy of Mo's Desert Clubhouse. Kids welcome to attend (just must have a direct parent or guardian present). Smoke Stack Rhino Smoke Stack Rhino have been hailed as ‘Australia’s most exciting up-and-coming blues and roots rockers’ (Beat Mag). Featuring a band-name that’s just one heavy animal away from the blues (just ask Howlin’ Wolf), this trio from the Yarra Valley near Melbourne are wowing crowds around Australia. In the last 12 months they’ve appeared at festivals like Blues at Bridgetown, Moruya Blues and Roots, St Kilda Blues Festival, Healesville Music Festival, Echuca Winter Blues and more and have found airplay on triple J and Triple M, ran Rock The Valley Music Festival and placed on Spotify playlists. New album The Mojo Funk sees the group claim a sound of their own which they call... ‘The Mojo Funk’. Mixed by Ocean Alley’s producer Callum Howell, the record debuted at #2 on the ARIA Blues/Jazz Albums Chart and is “a high energy, semi-psychedelic montage of funky blues rock that’s sure to get your mojo back”. On stage the band’s electric live show reaches new heights. Singer-guitarist Ash King is a whirlwind with resonator guitar in hand, his earthy vocals reaching from deep baritone low notes to high screams, drummer Matt Berg pushes the band forward from behind the kit and bassist Shane Andison stays rock solid, holding the whole thing together with an infectious, catchy groove. Smoke Stack Rhino are on the rise and are well and truly here to bring the mojo back. Noah Robertson Noah Robertson, a 14 year old blues and roots protege, from the Whitsunday Islands now Southern Gold Coast in Australia, is making his first appearance at Mo's. His musical journey has already taken him to places others may only hope to visit over the course of a lifetime—all before being old enough to drive. Robertson plays both acoustic and electric guitar, utilizing a pedalboard and looping to craft his unique sound. His skill took him not only to the Airlie Beach Festival of Music in 2022 but earned him a title in the 2022 Australian National Busking Championships, having just performed at Byron Bluesfest this year after making the finalists of the 'Groms' under 18 division of the renowned Bluesfest Busking Competition. A must see! Doors at 12.00pm Saturday 09 June // $20+BF or $25 on the door / $10+BF for under 18s or $15 on the door // ALL AGES GIG
