The Brass Winds band delivered an impressive performance in Yorktown, Virginia. Brass Winds is an innovative leader in the resurgent wave of 70’s and 80’s music. This dynamic 9-member band captivated the crowd with their energetic and dynamic show prompting the audience to get up and dance from the start of their first set. The tight-knit ensemble comprising brass, piano, drums, bass and lead guitarists delivered an outstanding performance that delighted everyone and left them craving more. The lead vocalist, Katherine Whitbeck and Curtis Brown, showcased their harmonies, performing beloved tracks by Earth, Wind & Fire, Chicago, Whitney Houston, Celine Dion and other Iconic 80’s artist. Katheryn’s rendition of Aretha Franklin’s “Respect” and Celine Dions “My Heart Will Go On” were well received. Her vocal performance was at times operatic, emotive, and strong, demonstrating her power and clarity. Her performance showcased her expansive range and near perfect vibrato. This performance demonstrated Katheryn’s talent and professionalism as a musician. I for one am excited to get a glimpse of what the future holds when the band begins writing and arranging their own songs. #Brasswinds

The show at Billsburg Brewery on August 17th was excellent. I first saw this band after watching a video my sister took at a concert on Virginia Beach in July 2024 while visiting from NY. This is a 9-person band with two lead singers, they are versatile and talented. The band has a three-piece horn section, drums, bass, lead guitar and piano. Their musical repertoire is vast. To name a few I heard them playing Chicago, The Four Tops, Journey’s (Steve Perry) and many other artists. I felt like I was transported back to the 80’s. I saw Chicago in concert several times back in the day. I closed my eyes while Brass Winds was playing, I truly couldn’t tell I wasn’t at a Chicago concert. Some facts I learned. The band’s members are current and former Naval personnel and music teachers in the tidewater area. Curtis founding band member, lead singer and business manager is also a sax player. Lead singer Katheryn Whitbeck is a former Naval Cadet and vocalist with the Navy’s band. She has performed all over the world for Ambassadors, Heads of State as well as former US Presidents. During my online research I learned that Katheryn Whitbeck is also a classically trained Opera singer. I’ve just learned that Miss Whitbeck will be performing with the Virginia Beach Symphony (Symphonicity) at the 31st street pavilion on August 29th, 2024, at 7:00 PM. Brass Winds will be playing at Music on the Half Shell in Kilmarnock at 7:00 PM on August 30th. Thought I would mention that I attempted to upload a video nfrom A Virginia beach July concert I couldnt get it to work on this site.

About BrassWind

Brasswind started in November of 2017. All friends with one another but hardly ever playing together in the same room...they all decided it was time! Some of the most talented musicians in the area coming together to form a 'SuperBand' of sorts! So much formal training, countless professional experiences, diverse musical upbringing, varied styles.

Brasswind specializes in executing high-quality vocal and instrumental displays and recreating the classic horn-band sound of our yesteryear's! Envision being in a big hall venue or amphitheater seeing Chicago, Earth Wind & Fire, Tower of Power, James Brown, The Temptations, or The King of Pop Michael Jackson! Music back when music was music! An era of culture filled with prolific musicians and quality repertoire that was written with substance and purpose!

Brasswind can do it all. High-energy horn arrangements to get you moving, or beautiful ballads that will have you swaying with that special someone. We are educated musically and arrange our charts to meet your needs.

The diversity in repertoire allows Brasswind to meet the demands of almost any situation. A pre-reception cocktail hour all the way through the last dance, we have you covered! Festivals, weddings, corporate events, theaters, clubs, restaurants...a perfect ensemble for all!

Every member of Brasswind is a consummate professional. Theme parks, cruise ships, parades, field shows, national acts (both opening for and performing with); Brasswind members have been apart of nearly every type of performance imaginable which aids us in knowing how to act and handle each atmosphere. Our look is also extremely professional and uniformed. Top-notch attitudes, equipment, repertoire, performers, and ambiance...your guests will leave the venue feeling energized, entertained, and talking about the event long after!
