Henry X Biography

Around the mid-1970s, the parents of budding DJ/producer Henry X migrated to Europe, setting-up home in the liberal land of Holland. With his father being an avid music fan, the youthful 'H' had tracks and turntables before he was old enough to comprehend what they were...

Early influences such as; Bob Marley, Michael Jackson, Tupac Shakur and Prince helped to channel his tastes; the results were soulful and emotional, yet tough and raw. Finding his first two-steps in the new scene known as UK Garage (that was taking mainland Europe by storm in 2002), X was seeking to give something musically creative back to the scene and community. With this in mind, Henry took the name DJ Exchange for the early part of his career and has performed under various aliases since then including Mister Ex, Mister Exchange evolving most recently to Henry X.

Henry maximised his opportunities by delving into promotions and the management of underground events (under the Trendiez brand) within the Amsterdam, Harlem and the HIlversum areas of Holland. He played at legendary Dutch venues like Amsterdam's The Escape, Jimmy Woo, The Power Zone and Maasilo en route...

Heading back to where it all began, in summer 2008 'X' received bookings from Ghana's capital city Accra, to headline "London meets Amsterdam" (Back 2 Ghana Party) at The Basement, alongside gigs at the 1000 plus capacity venue The Rhapsody...

Early 2009 saw the 'H man' make the trip across the German border to the Zak Club in Uelsen city playing to thousands for a well known Dutch production outfit... 2009 has also seen a much more direct approach when dabbling in the studio with those African-touched house vibes, committing himself to releases due out in 2010.

After debuting at the world's only beachside Ministry of Sound in Egypt's Hurghada city, Henry X was invited back for a residency with the dance music giants on the spot... He's the first and to-date only Dutch resident for Ministry of Sound and Hed Kandi Beach Bar Egypt, headlining events such as; Hed Kandi's Full Moon Party and Hed Kandi LIVE, Ministry of Sound's Smoove, Gorgeous, Dutch Masters and the immense White Sensation, playing to crowds in their thousands week-in, week-out.

Continuing on his journey to bring house back to music's African roots via his selections of vocal funk, heavy quality productions going into 2010 with bigger and better clubland debuts both at home and abroad.
