Ange Biography

Ange is a legendary progressive rock band from France created in 1970.

Story and biography:
Christian Décamps was born in Héricourt (Haute Saône) on August 11th, 1946. At a very young age he is possessed by this irresistible envy to look like Orson Welles at the end of his life rather than Alain Delon at the beginning of his. Quickly attracted by music and the scene, he found, at the end of 1969, the band ANGE (which means, in French, Analyse Naturelle des Grands Esprits) who is going to assert itself throughout the 70s as being N°1 of the French rock scene, with 6 golden disks and more than 3 million albums sold. On scene, Christian DECAMPS propels every title of the group in real life, served by his vocal power and highly-rated gestural together with a very particular sound.

1970: First real concert of the group with a satiric opera-rock "La fantastique épopée du Géneral Machin" January 31st.
First concert at the Golf Drouot, the temple of the Parisian rock scene of the time, on April 5th, 1970.
ANGE becomes very fast the whooping cough of this Mecca... ANGE takes away the annual finale of the Golf Drouot and signs with PHILIPS its first single "Tout feu tout flamme".
1972, June 7th: Presentation of the 1st album "CARICATURES". ANGE plays the first part of "Johnny HALLYDAY Circus", a three month tour of France.
1973: First English tour before the release of the "LE CIMETIERE DES ARLEQUINS", the second album, in which is recorded Jacque Brel's famous "Ces gens-là". ANGE triumphs in England and more particularly at the Festival of Reading starring GENESIS...
1974, January 10th. Parisian concert in the Mutuality in front of more than 2.000 spectators for the first time in ten years.
1974: third album " AU-DELA DU DÉLIRE " which becomes very fast golden disk. 12.000 persons applaud the group at the Detached House in Paris.
1975: "EMILE JACOTEY" golden disk (4th album).
1976: "PAR LES FILS DE MANDRIN". The album obtains the Grand Prix of the Academy Charles Cros
1977: biggest tour of the group, at the Sports Stadium of Lyon in front of more than 10.000 persons on May 12th... Then the Sports stadium, in Paris. Triumph and recording of a double album in public "TOME VI".
1978: album "GUET-APENS".
1980: ANGE presents "VU D'UN CHIEN" and is always on tour. Same thing for "ENGINE" which marks the celebration of the 10th anniversary of the group at the Sports stadium of Paris, then at the Printemps de Bourges.
1985 May 4th: Christian DECAMPS's stage setting is delirious and avant-gardist...
"FOU" album 1986 and "EGNA" in 1987
1987:"C'EST POUR DE RIRE " at MARIANNE with a new version of "TOUT FEU TOUT FLAMME"...
1992 Return to ANGE with a 16th album on PHONOGRAM: "LES LARMES DU DALAI LAMA " in April 1994. "NU" with Musea.

One of the rare bands still active nowadays: their last album, "?" was released in 2006 and a national tour was planned just after.
2007: release of a bootleg on cd and dvd titled "Le tour de la question"
