Bob Livingston Music Biography

BOB LIVINGSTON BIO 2022

Bob Livingston is an Americana folk-rock troubadour that hails from Lubbock and Austin. He’s never been a traditional Texas country rocker even though he’s spent more than his share of time on the roadhouse circuit with some of Texas’s most influential and colorful musical icons. As a member of Austin’s legendary Lost Gonzo Band, Livingston toured and recorded with musical visionaries Jerry Jeff Walker, Michael Martin Murphey and Ray Wylie Hubbard to name but a few.

More cosmic than country and past the borders of America and Europe, Livingston has taken his brand of Texas music to the world as an international music ambassador for the US State Department. Delving into the music and mysteries of far flung countries like India, Pakistan, Viet Nam and Syria, Bob played with local musicians on their ingenious instruments mixing rhythms, instrumentation and insights from both east and west. They called it, “country and eastern music.”

This rich history and uniquely diverse musical experience is all present in a live performance by Bob Livingston. One finds a veteran singer-songwriter and master storyteller who captures the audience from the first notes played. It’s a unique and entertaining performance with original songs, Texas music songs and history, humor, poetry, authentic vocals and stellar guitars. Joining Bob onstage is Austin guitarist par excellence, Bradley Kopp who has toured with such luminaries as Joe Ely, Jimmie Dale Gilmore, Jerry Jeff and Eliza Gilkyson. Together Bob and Bradley rock the house, gonzo style.

Bob has released nine studio albums, most recently, Up The Flatland Stairs. His album, Gypsy Alibi, won “Album of the Year” at the Texas Music Awards in 2011. He’s writing a rollicking memoir for Texas Tech Press that’s due out in 2023 - just in time for the 50th anniversary of the quintessential Jerry Jeff Walker/Lost Gonzo Band album, Viva Terlingua. Bob was inducted into the “Texas Music Legends Hall of Fame” in 2016 and in the “West Texas Walk Of Fame” in 2018. Livingston is on the Texas Commission on the Arts’ “Touring Roster” and provides special TCA sponsored performances to theaters, schools and libraries across Texas.
