Tiana Major9 Biography
Although Tiana Major9 fell in love with R&B and hip-hop first, her fascination with their origins quickly turned from curiosity to a genuine obsession with jazz. “Jazz is free and uncompromising,” she says, using two words that also aptly describe the East London-born artist and her music.
Growing up in a Jamaican household, Tiana was surrounded by many different styles of music – everything from reggae to garage. The church became a catalyst for her love of performing, and private lessons helped hone her talent. Complex UK observed, “Tiana Major9’s unique brand of jazzy R&B is awe-inspiring.” Her self-penned lyrics and alternative sound earned her early support from BBC Radio 1Xtra and a spot on their Hot for 2019 list. Tiana has played stages across Europe and supported such acts as Kelela, Jessie J, Ray BLK and Ella Eyre, to name a few.
“Collide,” Tiana’s collaboration with EARTHGANG, is a heartfelt duo produced by Benny Cassette (Kanye West, John Legend) for the soundtrack to the fall 2019 film Queen & Slim. In less than a week, the track amassed over 700,000 global streams. “Collide” was the #1 Most Added song at Urban AC Radio and topped Spotify’s The Newness playlist. HotNewHipHop praised it as “a smooth, soulful record that fits the vibe for the upcoming feature film.” Tiana is signed to Motown Records in the U.S.
