The Seldom Scene

After a 45 year hiatus attending a live performance of The Seldom Scene, I finally heard them live again at the Lyric Theatre in Blacksburg. The only other time I saw them perform was in 1979 at The Birchmere Restaurant. Their performance at the Lyric did not disappoint. The band's clarity was awesome. While the performers are all different, and I miss that high lonesome sound of John Duffey, I like the new band as well. I stream their music and consider them my favorite bluegrass band! The CD I purchased will be used to pound their music in my pickup truck, which is the only place I have a CD player, preferring to stream music on my phone, iPad, or desktop. I will probably wear the CD out in a few years! Thank you for the opportunity to comment. Please let the band know how much I enjoyed seeing them live again after all those years. Soundcheck ran long, but that wasn't their fault - mostly weather related. Nicely varied program. These guys are real pros.

What a concert! I laughed, I cried... The music was just incredible. Really great musicians who clearly enjoy making music with each other. I would argue I was the youngest in the room (at the not so tender age of 40) and I had never heard their music before, but I am a huge fan now! Louisa Arts Center was a nice venue- intimate and friendly.

Actually didn't get to go to the show. Knowing these guys they knocked it out of the hall... Seen them several times over the years and have never been disappointed.

Fantastic show and venue. It is like having a private show just for yourself. Of course seeing The Seldom Scene in a dump would be Fantastic! Thankfully the Bright Box Theater is not a dump. I look forward to going back in the future. Remember it is often first come general seating, so don't be late.

Love the Scene! I've been seeing them live since 1984. Arrived 30 minutes early and very few seats were left, only the sides of the stage where the view was not very good for getting to see all of the musicians. The sound was excellent. Good venue but I recommend getting there much earlier to get better seats.

This show was awesome!!!!!!! I was just a kid when the original show was done but the redo was even better than the original!!!!!! The members of the Seldom Scene were friendly and treated us fans like they knew us for years!!!!! The Mount Airy farm is a great venue for the show!!!!! Lots of room to spread out and enjoy the show!!!!!! The folks working the venue were nice as well!!!!!!!! Can't wait for the next show!!!!!!! The vendors are awesome also!!!!!!!! Thanks for a GREAT show!!!!!!!!

A great show in a unique venue. The event staff did a great job managing a small space. This event went a long way in converting my on the bluegrass fence Wife to potential fandom. The meet and greet was a great way to interact with the band. The music was a mix of old and new material presented with the skills you would expect from true musicians.

Very good performance. We started with original at The Red Fox in 1971. These guys keeping up the style and quality of originals.

Great harmonies, all talented musicians, and enjoyable playlist of new and old material. The venue was a very enjoyable place to enjoy live music, in spite of acoustical challenges.
