After a 45 year hiatus attending a live performance of The Seldom Scene, I finally heard them live again at the Lyric Theatre in Blacksburg. The only other time I saw them perform was in 1979 at The Birchmere Restaurant. Their performance at the Lyric did not disappoint. The band's clarity was awesome. While the performers are all different, and I miss that high lonesome sound of John Duffey, I like the new band as well. I stream their music and consider them my favorite bluegrass band! The CD I purchased will be used to pound their music in my pickup truck, which is the only place I have a CD player, preferring to stream music on my phone, iPad, or desktop. I will probably wear the CD out in a few years! Thank you for the opportunity to comment. Please let the band know how much I enjoyed seeing them live again after all those years. About The Seldom Scene

The Seldom Scene is an American bluegrass band formed in 1971 in Bethesda, Maryland out of the weekly jam sessions in the basement of banjo player Ben Eldridge. These sessions included John Starling on guitar and lead vocals, Mike Auldridge on resophonic guitar and baritone vocals, and Tom Gray on bass. Then came mandolinist John Duffey, who had quit the Country Gentlemen two years before due to disillusionment with the music business. Duffey was invited to the jam sessions, hit it off with John Starling, and decided to give music another try at the time when Auldridge arranged for the group to play as a performing band.
