About this concert
Gesa Power House Theatre proudly presents Las Cafeteras on Thursday, May 9 at 7 p.m. Las Cafeteras have taken the music scene by storm with their infectious live performances and have crossed many genres and borders along the way. Their electric sound and energy has taken them around the world, playing shows from Bonnaroo to the Hollywood Bowl, WOMAD New Zealand to Montreal Jazz, and beyond! Born and raised east of the Los Angeles River, Las Cafeteras are remixing roots music as modern day troubadours. They are a sonic explosion of Afro-Mexican rhythms, electronic beats, and powerful rhymes that document stories of a community seeking to “build a world where many worlds fit.” From Afro-Mexican to Americana, from Soul to Son Jarocho, from Roots to Rock and Hip Hop, Las Cafeteras take folk music to the future. Reserved seating tickets start at $25 ($20 for students) and are available online or by calling 509-529-6500.

Las Cafeteras Biography

Las Cafeteras are immigrant children remixing roots music, telling modern day stories with what LA Times has called a “uniquely Angeleno mishmash of punk, hip-hop, beat music, cumbia and rock … Live, they’re magnetic.” The band is taking the music scene by storm with infectious live performances that cross musical borders. They’ve played with bands such as folk/indie favorites Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros, Mexican icons Cafe Tacuba, Colombian superstar Juanes, L.A. legends Ozomatli, the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra, and most recently with Talib Kweli. Yo no creo en fronteras. Yo cruzare. http://lascafeteras.bandcamp.com/ http://www.lascafeteras.com
