Filthy Militia Biography

Filthy Militia are a six piece ska punk band formed in North London in 2016. With a sound that draws as much from trad ska and 2-Tone as it does from the 90s and beyond, their debut EP Innocent Until Proven Filthy was released in February 2018 with a sold-out launch show at Whitechapel’s Urban Bar.

Since then, the band have quickly made a name for themselves supporting the likes of Neville Staple, The Toasters, Random Hand, Lightyear, Captain Accident & The Disasters, The JB Conspiracy and Call Me Malcolm, along with appearances at Level Up Festival, Equinox and The Big One 11.

While the rest of the world screeched to a halt in 2020, Filthy Militia refused to sit still, and after a successful Kickstarter campaign they headed into Hidden Track Studios in Folkestone with producer Oz Craggs (Neck Deep, Call Me Malcolm, Millie Manders & The Shut Up, 24 Hour Punks) to record their follow-up EP, Coping Mechanism. Now with a much more developed sound, incorporating influences from reggae, dub and gypsy punk, the new EP was released on Friday 4th February 2022 (four years to the day after their debut) on Pookout Records, with another sold-out launch show following at The Black Heart, Camden on Saturday 12th February 2022. Coping Mechanism was met with great critical acclaim, with many citing it as the band’s best work to date and a marked evolution of their sound. 2023 saw the band reach wider audiences, with appearances at Boomtown Festival, Catbite and Kill Lincoln’s debut UK tour, Lightyear’s sold-out one-off Call Of The Weasel Clan album show at the New Cross Inn and opening for The Bar Stool Preacher’s at The Underworld, Camden. With their debut album in the works and shows supporting the likes of Jaya The Cat already in the diary, 2024 looks to be the year Filthy Militia take it to the next level.
