About this concert
"The Bluetones are a band tied to their Brit Pop past but with tunes that begin to transcend it too" - Louder Than War 2024 will see the release of the first new Bluetones material in 14 years, and promises to be as exciting a year for the group as they've ever enjoyed. A renaissance that will see the four original band members take in the summer festivals before a full UK tour in the autumn/winter of 2024. "The Bluetones run the gamut from classic indie-pop to psychadelictinged rock with unselfconscious ease" - The Scotsman

The Bluetones Biography

The Bluetones are an English 'britpop' band, formed in Hounslow in 1994, featuring Mark Morriss (vocals, keyboards & occasional guitar), Adam Devlin (guitars), Scott Morriss (bass guitar & backing vocals), and Eds Chesters (drums- the man who has both plural forename and surname!)

Understandably classed as a Britpop band, given that their appearance and initial huge success with songs such as "Slight Return" coincided completely with the Britpop explosion, their debut record "Expecting To Fly" is actually a beautifully fragile affair. Adam Devlin's Stone Roses-esque guitars chime and soar beautifully over Morriss's lovelorn lyrics. As time has gone on, The Bluetones have actually become a more conventional 'indie' band - whilst notching up classic hits such as "Marblehead Johnson", "If..." and "Keep The Home Fires Burning" they have struggled to replicate the togetherness of their debut. After 7 top 20 UK chart placings in total, they are now well out of the public eye, but unlike almost all of their peers, continue to release albums and tour with strong support wherever they play from the 'Blue Army'. In December 2008, they performed a short uk tour performing "Expecting To Fly" in it's entirety.

Members of the band have made cameo appearances in the British comedy shows Spaced and Little Britain.

Vocalist Mark Morriss released a solo EP under the alias Fi-Lo Beddow in 2006, which eventually bloomed into a full solo record under his real name. "Memory Muscle" was released in June 2008, and received a surprising amount of critical acclaim, given the music press' frosty attitude to Bluetones material. It included new versions of the songs which made up the Fi-Lo Beddow EP, and most oddly, featured strings arrnaged by film score composer David Arnold.
