About this concert
Moes Alley presents the return of Weapons of Mass Creation with special guest Flaco el Jandro!Friday, June 21stDoors: 8pm / Show: 9pm$15 in advance / $20 day of the show21+WEAPONS OF MASS CREATIONRecapturing the essence of musicality, Weapons of Mass Creation stuns with socially attuned themes draped in genre-melding instrumentation, warm vocals, and Afro-Latino rhythms. Brimming with live saxophone, synths, keyboards, and guitars, the independent family units arrangements meander into the sonic realms of Soul, Cumbia, and R&B.Drawing motifs from film, authors, activists, and daily life, the Anaheim-made collectives sweeping scope of production exemplifies their multi-dimensional artistry and unbridled creativity. Interweaved with dexterous rhyme schemes, sumptuous harmonies, and culture-shifting lyricism, WOMCs work is an amalgamation of evocative chronicling and smoothed-out musicianship for the ages.Initially slated as a hip-hop group, the six Franco siblings Joules (emcee/vocals), Luis (guitar/vocals), Jacob (bass/vocals), Crudo (keyboardist/producer), Moe Budda (drums/emcee/producer), Silas (saxophone/vocals) joined forces with the Quionez brothers Soli (emcee) and EQ (emcee) and newcomer Hiiku (synths/producer). They collectively embraced the name Weapons of Mass Creation, a phrase Jacob used in a poem that highlighted creativity as a weapon to dismantle colonialism. With many band members the offspring of immigrants, they have each endured their own personal challenges: financial hardships and unemployment, incarceration, mental health issues, and sexual orientation concealment. Breaking generational curses, Weapons of Mass Creation has found healing through music and harness its remarkable power to unite individuals. Aside from sold-out shows at The Paramount and The Moroccan Lounge, the 9-piece group has showcased their talent at renowned L.A. venues like The Echo, The Ford, and even co-headlined the 101 Festival at the Hollywood Bowl. They were also named The OC Weeklys Best Hip Hop Act in both 2017 and 2019.Garnering editorial nods from esteemed outlets KCET and The LA Times, the group has gained traction gracing stages with seasoned acts like SZA, Smino, Aloe Blacc, DāM-Funk, and DJ Battlecat. WOMC also headlined the Hit The Switches festival (2022), performed at Tropiclia (2018), and sold out a string of concerts during their inaugural West Coast Tour. Their discography includes notable releases such as Labor of Love (2019) and their transformative EP Family Business (2023). As individual members of the group gear up for solo album releases, their forthcoming material as Weapons of Mass Creation aims to create a time-honored catalog against an awe-inspiring and colorful soundscape that will solidify their undoubted longevity.

Weapons of Mass Creation Biography

Blood truly has proven thicker than water with Weapons of Mass Creation, the multifaceted, genre bending band always surprise their listeners when they reveal that of 7 members -- 6 are biological siblings, Bassist / Vocalist "Naps," Pianist / Producer "Crudo," Drummer / MC "Moe Buddah," Guitarist / Vocalist "BrothaLuis," Vocalist / MC / Femme Fatale "Joules," Saxophonist / Vocalist "Esther" make up the core of the Franco siblings. Their cousin, MC / Philosopher "Solitude" completes their deadly team. Blending Latin styles with thoughtful rap lyrics, they truly encompass a unique style reminiscent of their different yet complementary personalities. Described by fans as a mix of The Roots and Ozomatli. They sprinkle in influences like Nas and Javier Solis -- topping it off with some Lauryn Hill and Curtis Mayfield -- gracefully weaving in all their experiences through their compositions.
Easily another of the bands noteworthy attributes is their song writers' intellectual and introspective lyrical content. The band's long standing exposure to sociopolitical ideologies feeds the fire of their words and they utilize these ideas while nurturing their musicality to create their original works. They embrace all their intersectional identities of being 1st generation, Latinidad, blackness, womanhood, queerness, and putting these in the forefront of their artistry.
To further the scope of talent that these young artist command, WOMC has been working hard in the past few years to establish a precedent of DIY independence. Each member is multidisciplinary, adding something to the already well oiled machine. In other words everything is created in house, from the logo designs to the t-shirt printing. Have it be the lyrics, the melodies, every single note in production and recording, even mixing and mastering, all done independently!
Within these dynamics WOMC finds themselves quoting revolutionaries like Frantz Fanon and Gloria Anzaldua to cracking jokes while sipping 40 oz. This rawness is reflected within the music, one second taking the listener on a self-reflecting journey and the other dancing the night away to home-cooked cumbias. Together Weapons Of Mass Creation has built a truly revolutionary musical form of resistance for the people.
