The transition to America, along with his subsequent moves around the country–from New York to Iowa to Texas to California, and now to Japan - helped form the unique insight that he fashions into highly personal songs. His music is influenced by artists such as Bright Eyes, Elliott Smith and Belle and Sebastian. He released two CDs in America and toured around the country. He has put out several Japan releases, including the 2-song single "Shizukanako," available on Spotify, YouTube and elsewhere online. 01) Marin Ishida Marin Ishida was born & raised in Yokohama as a classical violinist and attended Berklee College of Music at 17 years old. She learned jazz violin and a variety of composition styles such as Afro-Cuban & Brazilian fusion, Middle Eastern fusion, electro-pop, folk electronica, big band, film music, and the musical styles of artists such as Stevie Wonder, Stuff Smith, Stephen Sondheim, and John Williams. When she turned 19, she started her career as a songwriter/producer by writing songs for local Boston artists and bands, and she producing up-and-coming Youtube singer-songwriter, Mia Stegner’s songs. Marin also released a single, “Hypnotherapy”, under her folk electronica duo, Suburban Marine Life, in January, 2020. In September of 2021, she released her debut electro-pop album, “Registered Myth”, in which she sarcastically serenades about American social constructs, toxic ideals projected on young women, and mental health awareness. Marin says, “What I’ve always loved about music is that it always magically aligned itself with my life in some way. When I wrote these songs, I didn’t know who, what or where I wanted to be after seeing the adult world didn’t work exactly how I imagined it. I had no idea what the thoughts I was putting into music were trying to say nor did I notice I was leaning on songwriting to process my emotions. The songs on “Registered Myth” were selected based on the common themes they tackle; the dangers of romanticizing yourself, the loss of innocence as well as the ability to blindly believe, the acceptance of chaos and surrender of self-worth, and the rare moments of wisdom that pull you out just in time before you fall in too deep.” She hopes to follow in the footsteps of her biggest inspirations such as Mitski, Matt Maltese, and Fiona Apple. Marin continues to pursue her dream to become an indie/folk rock artist by performing as a jazz violinist/singer-songwriter in live venues around Shibuya, Ebisu, Shimo-kitazawa, and her hometown, Yokohama.
