About this concert
We will be celebrating the release of DOG BEACH, Merryn Jeann's first full length album at The Shacklewell Arms on 31st March 2024, with support from Salomé Wu.
Merryn Jeann
Arriving as an impressive, one of a kind body of work, produced by the exceptionally talented Rob Ellis (PJ Harvey, Marianne Faithfull, Torres), it takes shape as a 10 track display of a meticulously crafted, sonic wonderment.
Merryn Jeann is a diverse artist, always experimenting and proudly free from the confines of a box. She thrives in exploring both visual and sonic arts and the result is a sound that embodies a world of creativity, capable of transporting listeners into her one of a kind universe.
The Australia based singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist has crafted a genre-bending, dreamy world of soundscapes that bear a magnetic, musical wisdom. Sitting somewhere between Caroline Polachek, Cat Power, Weyes Blood, Feist, and Kelsey Lu, Merryn Jeann’s sound is fueled by authenticity. Her raw and honest self packaged into intricate and reflective morsels, many of which are yet to be revealed.
"Dog Beach is a captivating musical journey that showcases the artist's unique blend of folk, pop, and indie rock. Released by Rescue + Return Records, this album is a must-have for fans of heartfelt and introspective music." - Rough Trade
Salomé Wu
Spilling out majestic ballads with orchestral composure, the faerie fantasias of North London artist musician Salomé Wu lifts into unimaginably pristine realms. With shimmers like an ice sculpture dripping in a weak winter sun, the music stands tall and fierce like an epic poem of old. Self-described as experimental gothic symphonic rock, Salomé's sonic world is gestural and dramatic, creating a palpably living body of work.
An otherworldly incantation, Salomé’s show seizes command with her potent voice that exudes both power and control, and yet a deep vulnerability and innocence. Her presence ignites an enchanting atmosphere that offers a raw emotional intensity. The ethereal, dramatic, and melancholic notes of her work showcase a musician whose music serves as an authentic extension of herself and her life, and addresses the complexities of loss and acceptance as a human being.
