Sabrina Lawrie Biography

“A towering solo debut.” ★★★★ 1/2 STARS - Rolling Stone AU "A great performance, full of grit and guts.” Dom Alessio, Triple J “Sabrina is Brisbane’s own rock queen, industry heavyweights and fans agree, she is rising rock royalty!” Tia Auld, Music Is My Muse Sabrina's new album 'Hush The Mountain' was released this year to great acclaim and has been bringing critics to their knees. Released only a few short months ago, the making of Lawrie’s debut album was a journey in itself - more than 5 years to complete - the diligence in the song-writing and production resulted in glowing praise from all areas of the music industry: from 4 and a half stars on Rolling Stone AU; featured album on 612 ABC radio; and singles ‘No Rules’ [watch music video] (released March, 2017) and ‘Shine The Light’ [watch music video] (released June, 2017) received play on double J and community radios across Australia. Most recently, ‘Hush The Mountain’ was nominated for The Triffid’s 2017 Queensland Album of The Year alongside Bernard Fanning and Busby Marou and we also saw Lawrie shortlisted as a finalist for Queensland’s prestigious Grant McLennan Fellowship. Although this is Sabrina Lawrie’s solo debut, her recent successes have not come overnight. Lawrie has been working in both the foreground and background of the music industry over the past two decades with her album being a testament to the transition from underground Brisbane rock chick to the music professional she is today. It goes without saying that Sabrina Lawrie has been a fundamental element to the Brisbane music scene. The year leading up to the debut album was not a dull one for Lawrie. In early 2016, she suffered a monumental challenge that had her embark on a healing journey as she recovered from a near-fatal fall from a balcony that broke her back. With this profound, life-changing experience, her album is not only a musical masterpiece in its own Pig City-like right but, an insight — like diary entry after diary entry — into her spiritual journey that stemmed from her life-changing injury. In knowing of this journey, ’Hush The Mountain’ awakens a new insight into Lawrie’s worldly experiences as she traverses through terrains of dark pop, brooding earth rock and cosmic noise and psychedelia. It showcases her impeccable ability to create shape-shifting songs that break traditional conventions and are by turns aggressive and restrained, mind-bendingly strange, and often eerily beautiful. "Hush The Mountain is an album which stretches out luxuriously, a dextrous melding of menacing and low, with light and clear." - Samuel J Fell - Rolling Stone Magazine “A towering solo debut.” ★★★★ 1/2 STARS - Rolling Stone AU “Sabrina is Brisbane’s own rock queen, industry heavyweights and fans agree, she is rising rock royalty!” Tia Auld, Music Is My Muse
