About this concert
East Bay, CA via NYC-based songwriter Greg Hoy - whos recorded with Steve Albini (Nirvana, Pixies), Sylvia Massy (Johnny Cash, Tom Petty), and John Vanderslice (Spoon, Nada Surf) - has toured over 120 dates across the US since the fall of 2021. Comparisons to Jack White, Tom Petty, and Brittany Howard aside, the veteran songwriter has been a long time critical favorite. Hip-hop icon Ice-T appeared in his recent music video for Can You Take It? which was nominated for a California Music Video Award. Picked to take part in the 2021 Durango Songwriters Showcase for Film & TV, his songs have been heard on networks such as the CW, HBO, and MTV, as well as in commercials for Pinterest, Adobe, and American Express. Time Out NY says Hoys music is fueled by straight up melodicism. Jack at The Big Takeover says says This has to be the best pop record Ive ever heard recorded entirely by one person: is he for real? Broken 8 says his work shines with a focused punk rock swagger. The band is currently supporting both the vinyl release of Yay For Effort as well as a remix Extra Effort, featuring new versions of the title track by J. Robbins, Ariel Levine, and brainstorm Sheen.

Greg Hoy Biography

Plug-in-and-play rock artist Greg Hoy is supporting both the 'Yay For Effort' vinyl LP release as well as the new 'The Special Party' LP with The Boys. Having worked previously with Steve Albini (Nirvana, Pixies), Sylvia Massy (Tool, Johnny Cash, Tom Petty), John Vanderslice (Spoon, Nada Surf), and more, Hoy's become somewhat of a critical darling ever since his debut LP earned a spot on the Village Voice NYC's coveted 'Best of' list for 2003. His recent video for 'Can You Take It?' featuring hip hop icon Ice-T earned him a nomination in the CA Music Video Awards. With songwriting that's 'delivered with attitude & wit' (Stepkid), he's released over 30 albums from pop to punk. Divide & Conquor says 'Live, Hoy is like Jack White AND Jack Black rolled into one... I was addicted the first time I heard it' Red Red Wine on a Sunday says 'Hoy's records are deep - like peeling layers off an onion - each song is a revelation!'
