About this concert
A favorite with critics and the alt-country and Americana communities, Kelly Willis is a gifted singer and songwriter whose vocals can move from sunny clarity to passionate grit depending on the needs of the tune. Willis launched her recording career in 1990 with the album Well Travelled Love, but she first hit her creative stride with the 1999 independent release What I Deserve. Since then, Willis has carved out a comfortable niche writing and recording at her own relaxed pace, often in collaboration with her spouse, Bruce Robison (2013’s Cheater’s Game and 2014’s Our Year), while 2002’s Easy and 2007’s Translated from Love were fine examples of her talent and charm. – All Music “I know I’ve been around through many different phases of my genre of music. Whether it was the New Traditionalist, or Alt. Country or Americana. I ought to be able to write a book about it all. But in spite of my long career, I still think of myself as a teenager! I still feel like the underdog who’s trying to find her way” That Willis still feels like that scrappy young comer, six albums and four kids later, is good news for anyone about to take a shine to the only slightly broken-hearted-feeling spunk of the new album. Blue definitely continues to be her color, but more than anything, she’s back feeling new.

Kelly Willis Biography

Texas's Country Sweetheart. With rockabilly roots and a heartache-meets-honky-tonk voice, Kelly Willis has been labeled a country ingénue. As a new traditionalist singer/songwriter, her tunes effortlessly combine the storytelling and strings aspects of country music and the driving force of rock.

After the last two joint releases (Cheater's Game in 2013 and Our Year in 2014) with husband Bruce Robison featuring duets with beautifully organic close harmonies, the reigning Austin all-Americana couple will take a creative break and pursue their own ventures this year. Kelly has a solo project currently in the works, which will tentatively be released in Spring of 2018.
