About this concert
THE BLOCKHEADS “KEEPING THE SPIRIT OF IAN DURY ALIVE “ After over 45 years on the road, The Blockheads are cutting back on appearances so this may be the last chance to catch one of the most influential, quirky, and irrepressible Rock n’ Funk bands you are ever likely to see! Formed in 1977 to partner the legendary Ian Dury on the first Stiff Records UK tour promoting his now classic “New Boots and Panties ” album leading to dizzy heights with chart topping singles and albums to come. The current band still features original members Mickey Gallagher, Chas Jankel, Norman Watt- Roy, and John Turnbull augmented by longterm stalwart John Roberts on drums, a revolving line up of sax players, Gilad Atzman, Dave Lewis and original member Davey Payne, plus new frontman and vocalist Mike Bennett. The original line up were augmented with a host of great musicians including Wilko Johnson and son of Yes’s Steve Howe, Dylan Howe on drums amongst a host of other great musicians dedicated to keeping the unique blend of rock, funk jazz and music hall at the forefront of the British music scene. All the 2024 shows will feature celebrity surprise guests joining on vocals, which has always been a great attraction and success in the past, and these have included Phil Jupitus, Keith Allen and Simon Day…….so watch this space. The legendary Brit-Funkstets will be playing all the old favourites as well as new material from a recent album release ” Beyond the Call of Dury”, so expect classics “Hit Me With Your Rhythm Stick “, “Sex and Drugs and Rock n’ Roll”, “Sweet Gene Vincent “, ” What a Waste “, ” Reasons to be Cheerful ” amongst many others. The band have always been known as one of the “must see” live acts, always producing an incendiary performance and a party atmosphere for the audience. With a back catalogue to die for, makes The Blockheads one of the most dynamic and entertaining live acts this country has ever produced! Sex and Drugs and Rock and Roll couldn’t be more appropriate. An unmissable gig !
