About this concert
"Lush and dynamic" ? Mojo. "Genuinely fascinating"- Clash. Is it time to break up with your phone? Art rocker Tim Arnold's 'Super Connected' is a Black Mirror-esque fusion of film, live music and theatre about the existential ticking time bomb of social media and big tech. While the film rolls, Tim performs the soundtrack live, accompanied by pianist Sarah Kershaw. With the scale of a Radiohead concert and Bowie's theatricality, Arnold acts both on stage and on screen. Full of wit, wisdom, passion and terror, the show chronicles one family's encounter with addictions to technology. Being pulled in and out of the screen by the characters as they vie for attention, Tim grapples with what connection and intimacy mean in a digitally distracted world. "Arnold can turn from glam-punk to further traces of 1975 pop, to power ballads and make it all stick, unified by euphoric choruses" - Mojo A piece of theatre, a rock gig and a movie all rolled into one, with a vocal cameo by Stephen Fry, this will appeal to fans of science fiction, dystopia, futurism, dark satire, Radiohead, Kate Bush and David Bowie. All music is from the critically acclaimed 2023 album 'Super Connected' by Tim Arnold. Before the show, audience are invited to place their phones into a lockable pouch (which they keep) to feel the freedom (or discomfort!) of being liberated from the digital tug of constant connectivity. After the show there is time to connect with Tim, the cast and each other in our Screenless Social. Suitable for ages 15+ "No musician gets surveillance capitalism and data colonialism like Tim Arnold" Nick Couldry, Professor at The London School of Economics "A lush, dynamic and dramatic piece about the enslavement and surveillance of our phone and computer screens" ★★★★ Mojo "The scale of Radiohead and the panache of Bowie. A digital age take on the silent movie format" Culture Catch, New York ★★★★ www.superconnected.technology

Tim Arnold Biography

Tim Arnold - Writer, Composer and Performer

Singer, songwriter, actor, film director, composer and activist, his work spans multiple genres and mediums and he is known for his ambitious projects that draw communities together. He is founder of Save Soho with Stephen Fry and has worked extensively with Amnesty’s LGBTQIA arm through his music. SUPER CONNECTED explores the clash between humanity and technology in context of our collective mental health.

Mixed-race and autistic, Arnold was raised by his mother and her same-sex partner amidst a vibrant working-class theatrical community. When Iggy Pop told NME that Arnold’s work reminded him of David Bowie, Arnold’s career was given a new lease of life, winning BBC London Album of The Year for his album ‘The Soho Hobo’.

Arnold was mentored by the legendary Lindsay Kemp, who performed alongside Arnold in his multimedia installation piece ‘What Love Would Want’ in 2018.
