Paul Lay est incontestablement un des meilleurs pianistes jazz de sa génération. Que ce soit en trio avec Isabelle Sörling et Simon Tailleu en duo avec Eric Le Lann ou en solo, son jeu est inventif et subtil et ses improvisations démontrent une immense technique et une imagination sans limite.
Le concert au Rocher de Palmer a été un moment de virtuosité et de pur bonheur.

Martial Solal Après des études au conservatoire de Toulouse, puis au CNSM de Paris, département Jazz et Musiques Improvisées avec Hervé Sellin, François Théberge, Glenn Ferris et Dre Pallemearts, Paul Lay se perfectionne auprès de Riccardo del Fra, Joey Baron, Marc Johnson, Archie Shepp, Michel Portal, Marc Ducret). Prix de soliste au Concours National de Jazz de la Défense, quelques années après Bojan Z ou Baptiste Trotignon, Paul Lay est lauréat des plus prestigieux concours internationaux (Concours International Piano- Jazz de Moscou, Concours International Piano-Jazz Martial Solal, Concours International de piano jazz de Montreux), ainsi que de la Fondation Meyer, Mécénat Musical Société Générale. En récital solo et avec ses différentes formations (Paul Lay Mikado Quartet, Paul Lay Trio, Alcazar Memories), Paul Lay est invité dans les salles et festivals les plus prestigieux en France et à l’étranger : Duc des Lombards, Sunside, Club Vertigo, Scène nationale de Cherbourg, Jazz à la Villette, festival d'Annecy, de Biarritz, de Cologne, Midsummer Festival d’Hardelot, Musique à l’Empéri, Piano aux Jacobins à Toulouse, North Sea Jazz Festival à Rotterdam, Festival Radio France Montpellier, etc... Il joue aussi dans les formations de Géraldine Laurent Quartet, Terez Montcalm, Riccardo Del Fra Quintet, Ping Machine, Shauli Einav Quintet L’ensemble Aum de Julien Pontvianne, et accompagne au Théâtre du Châtelet « I was looking at the ceiling and then I saw the sky », de John Adams. A l’occasion de la première journée internationale du Jazz à l’Unesco, il accompagnait Barbara Hendricks pour un medley de spirituals et gospels. Après la création au Théâtre de la Criée d’Alcazar Memories, un hommage au Music-Hall marseillais avec Isabel Sorling au chant et Simon Tailleu à la contrebasse, à l’occasion de Marseille Capitale Européenne de la Culture 2013, Paul Lay sera de retour au Théâtre de la Criée en janvier 2014, à l’occasion d’une soirée hommage à Michel Petrucciani, en co-plateau avec Baptiste Trotignon et Aldo Romano. Il se produira également, avec sa nouvelle formation en quartet, au Duc des Lombards, au festival Jazz en mars à Maintenon, et en duo avec le pianiste Denis Pascal, à Albi et au Théâtre de Neuilly avec un projet pluridisciplinaire intitulé « Une Nuit Américaine », et en tournée en Suède avec Alcazar Memories. Régulièrement invité à l’étranger, Paul Lay se produit à l’IAJE à New York, à Toronto, à l'Institut Français de Berlin. Avec le soutien de l'Institut Français, il effectue des tournées en Russie et en Amérique centrale (Pérou, Mexique, Trinidad et Tobago, République Dominicaine).
