About this concert
Equally adept on vocals, flute and tenor sax, Camille Thurman has partnered up with New York drummer Darrell Green along with a dynamic band featuring rising trumpeter Wallace Roney, Jr., who will perform music from their forthcoming release Fortitude (to be released on their label Epidote Music).
Fortitude is about shared experiences, hopes and dreams. 'This is jazz taking up where post-bop left off and heading in a melodic and probing direction.' (All About Jazz). Her vocal talent has been claimed to be equal to that of Cecile McLorin Salvant and Samara Joy combined with a powerful, lyrical tenor sound. "I like to think of being able to sing and play as one complete instrument" vowing to continue the legacy of her heroes. From Camille’s dreamy vocals, electrifying saxophone lines, Darrell’s mesmerising rhythmic colours to dynamic interpretations of standards and originals.
