Conspiracy of Venus Conspiracy of Venus is a San Francisco-based women’s vocal ensemble that has gained a reputation for its varied and exciting repertoire. Director/performer Joyce Todd McBride’s inventive arrangements have been described as a “luxuriant mesh of plush and intricate harmony.” The group has charted unusual territory for a (mostly) a cappella ensemble, singing compositions by Tom Waits, Joni Mitchell, Stevie Wonder, PJ Harvey, Iris DeMent, Bjork, David Bowie, Led Zeppelin, The Ramones, Duke Ellington, and many others, as well as original works by McBride, which include settings of poetry by Bertolt Brecht. The San Jose Mercury News called the group's 2016 album, Muse Ecology, “intoxicating.” Since its founding in 2007, Conspiracy of Venus has performed in many of the Bay Area's finest venues and in New York City on tours in 2016 and 2018. http://conspiracyofvenus.com https://conspiracyofvenus.bandcamp.com https://www.facebook.com/conspiracyofvenus https://www.instagram.com/conspiracyofvenus Brian Belknap Brian Belknap is a multi-instrumentalist and songwriter in the mold of Lucinda Williams and Townes Van Zandt. His music— a rough blend of broke-down folk, junk-country blues, and gut-bucket gospel, rendered on accordion, slide guitar, and mandolin—is a product of the rich cultures of San Francisco and New Orleans, the two cities he calls home. Belknap’s latest offering, In Lieu of Flowers, once again finds him in the capable hands of producer Mike Coykendall (M. Ward, She & Him, Bright Eyes, Blitzen Trapper). The record is about coping with loss (both personal and collective), and finding redemption in a world in its own time of reckoning https://www.brianbelknap.net/ Recommended if you like: Roomful of Teeth, The Boswell Sisters, Gentle Giant, John Prine, Lucinda Williams, Townes VanZandt Vaccines, boosters, and masks are strongly encouraged, but are not required as per local Public Health Policy.
