About this concert
Thirteen - unlucky for some but that’s the number of the last run of shows for Mick Thomas’ Roving Commission to top of what has been a stella year. Putting the complications and vagaries of covid behind them Mick and the band weighed into the year full of inspiration and optimism. The album Where Only Memory Can Find You came out in May on Coolin’ By Sound Records and due to a committed and reinvigorated fan base managed to make a nice little dent in the ARIA Charts peaking at #5 for the Australian releases and a respectable #33 nationally. The AIR Charts were an entirely different affair with the album coming in at #1 no less! The graphic novel entitled Away Away - Rudi’s Story was a welcome accompaniment to the album and quickly became a firm favourite with the fans. The band’s Merch desk at live shows was a busy one this year. The subsequent National Tour in support of the album was a strong one with Mick and Jen Anderson leaving days after it finished to begin a tour of the UK including an appearance at Glastonbury on Billy Bragg’s Left Field Stage where they duetted with the man himself on a co-write between Mick and Billy.Returning home it was straight back out on the road for a bunch of dates with their long time road buddies The Waifs - where the band ended up on-stage each night closing the show with a joint version of the Lowest of the Low tune Rosy and Grey. So with thirteen dates left Mick and the band are set to put the finishing touches on the year as they get around the country with a whole swathe of support acts - both old and new.https://www.mickthomas.com

Mick Thomas Biography

Since the demise of the iconic WEDDINGS PARTIES ANYTHING in 1998, MICK THOMAS has barely taken his foot off the pedal for a moment - whether working solo, with his fine band THE SURE THING or on any amount of soundtracks and side projects. Mick has kept busy with his own label, CROXTON RECORDS, there's been numerous tours of the UK and Europe, China, Vietnam and North America, not to mention a fine list of independently released albums and now two albums for LIBERATION RECORDS.

In 2006 Mick released PADDOCK BUDDY - a record hailed by critics and fans alike as brimming with heartfelt tales of "everyday life and the mysteries inside everyone" - certainly his finest work to date post WPA.

Late 2006 saw WEDDINGS PARTIES ANYTHING come out of retirement for one headline appearance at the Queenscliff Festival - a show filmed and recorded by Madman Pictures as part of a DVD to be released by early 2008.

Mick has been heavily involved in the careers of many other Australian acts such as The Gadflys, The Re-mains, The Waifs, Darren Hanlon, Ruby Hunter, Nick Barker and The Vandas. Add to this his theatre work on the productions OVER IN THE WEST, THE TANK and RUN RABBIT RUN, his musical contribution to the stunning ABC website (also called DUST ON MY SHOES), sountracks for tele documentaries SHACKS, THE REAL WATER RATS, THE END OF THE GAME and LEFT LUGGAGE and his claims as a constant creative presence are substantial.

"Just when you imagine he can't have any more fabulous songs in him, he brings out an album like this ... he is Australia's last true balladeer..."
DJ, Forte Magazine, Geelong (talking about Dust On My Shoes)

" Mick Thomas, lyrically and musically, blows my mind. I inherited some testicular forte from Mick Thomas - more so than anyone he did me a spin, and gave me a lot of confidence"
Tim Rogers, Age EG Interview

"Dust On My Shoes makes you more than glad Mick Thomas has bothered to clock up the miles on his (seemingly) never ending tours as this grimy world would be a lot poorer without his engaging songs of life, love and experience..."
Tim Peacock, Whisperin' & Hollerin', UK
