About this concert
LOCATION: AUDITORIUM Celebrate one of the founding fathers of modern jazz, legendary drummer and bandleader Art Blakey. Blakey developed more great young musicians than anyone else from the 1950s to the end of the twentieth century with his group Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers. All alumni are amazing, but Wayne Shorter, Freddie Hubbard, Wynton Marsalis, Keith Jarrett, and Chuck Mangione are among his most famous alums. Three original Messengers, George Cables, David Schnitter, and Steve Davis, join us for this concert. Hear some of Blakey’s well-known tunes and original music from these three phenomenal artists. Joining the Messengers for this event are trumpet player Haneef Nelson, bassist Matt Dwonszyk, and drummer Ryan Sands, stepping into the big man’s shoes! Join us for music, photos, and stories of this monumental band leader, Art "Buhaina" Blakey! Tickets $12 ($10 members, $8 students, $5 children 15 and under). This program is a collaboration with Jazz in the Berkshires.
