About this concert
Escape to the 1920s silent movie era at the Orpheum theatre! Vancouver Civic Theatres is thrilled to present Silent Movie Mondays, an immersive experience that screens popular silent films accompanied by dramatic music played live on the historic Wurlitzer organ, the last theatre organ in Canada still performing in its original home. Nosferatu: A Symphony of Horror (1922) is a German Expressionist silent film recognized as one of the most influential masterpieces of the era. In this unauthorized adaptation of Bram Stoker's 1897 novel Dracula, Max Schreck stars as the Count Orlok, a vampire who resides deep in the Transylvanian mountains. Real estate agent Thomas Hutter (Gustav von Wangenheim) visits Count Orlok?s remote castle to sell him a house, catalyzing a chain of events that unleashes terror on Hutter?s wife Ellen (Greta Schröder) and their town. Following the show, Keith Blackmore of Vancouver Film School will host a lively discussion about the movies
